A major federal spending bill will be considered by the U.S. House this week to avoid a government shutdown at the end of the month, and among its supporters is Congressman Fred Upton. He tells us the bill is a combination of 12 different appropriations bills that cover defense, health, education, and labor. President Trump announced on Twitter last week he’s not the biggest fan because of one thing that’s missing.

“There’s not money for the wall in this bill,” Upton said. “It’s not relevant to the appropriations bill here. That’s a whole different issue, but we’ll see what he does when the House passes the bill, mostly likely on Thursday.”

Upton says he supports the spending plan because it includes extra funding for the National Institutes of Health as envisioned by his 21st Century Cures legislation. The bill also does not include funding the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository, which disappoints Upton. He tells us senators from Nevada once again shot that project down.
