Coming up next week at the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center in St. Joseph will be a presentation on Territorial Road and its history. The museum’s Jennifer Richmond-Ananbeh tells WSJM News local teacher and historian Chuck Jager will talk about his experience riding a bicycle all along the route through Michigan.

“He hopped on his bicycle in downtown Detroit and set off across Michigan to take a five day journey, retracing the old Territorial Road, which was the route of the Michigan pioneers in the 1830s,” Richmond-Ananbeh said.

Jager wrote a book about his experience called Pedaling the Pioneer Path: Territorial Road, and it will be available at next Thursday’s Heritage Museum presentation. Territorial Road was one of Michigan’s first major roads, going all the way across the state. Next Thursday’s presentation will be at 6:30 p.m. and it’s open to everyone. Those who attend as asked to make a $5 donation to the Heritage Museum and Cultural Center.
