As a drinking water advisory is lifted for the community of Parchment in Kalamazoo County, health officials say the job of keeping residents safe is not over. In June, groundwater wells were contaminated with chemicals known as PFAS. The water system was then flushed out by the city of Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller spoke at a news conference on the situation Monday.

“You citizens were patient, and you were caring about the people who were delivering the water to you, and so we wanted to make sure that you got a thank you,” Fuller said.

Fuller said 1,200 cases of water were delivered to Parchment on a daily basis during the crisis. Monitoring and continued work to the Parchment water system is ongoing. It includes about 3,000 Kalamazoo County residents.
