Indians 8, Tigers 1 – Indians rout Tigers 8-1, lead AL Central by 9
Yonder Alonso, Melky Cabrera and Edwin Encarnacion all homered for Cleveland, and Corey Kluber pitched into the eighth inning in the Indians’ 8-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. Rajai Davis added a triple and two doubles for the Indians, who took two of three in Detroit and extended their AL Central lead to nine games over Minnesota. It’s the largest division lead in the major leagues at the moment. Kluber (13-6) allowed a run and five hits in 7 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out five.  Jordan Zimmermann (4-3) allowed five runs and six hits in three innings.  The Indians outhit Detroit 16-5.

Blue Jays 7, White Sox 4 – Blue Jays score 5 runs in ninth to beat White Sox 7-4
Brandon Drury hit a go-ahead, two-run double in a five-run ninth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Chicago White Sox 7-4 on Sunday. Luke Maile had an RBI double and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. added an RBI single in the inning before Gurriel exited with an injury. Teoscar Hernandez homered to tie the game earlier in the ninth for the Blue Jays, who won two of three against the White Sox.      Hernandez’s homer to lead off the inning was his 16th of the season. Pinch-hitter Daniel Palka homered in the ninth for the White Sox off Ryan Tepera. Omar Narvaez had three hits, including his first career triple, and drove in two runs. Matt Davidson had two hits for Chicago.    Jace Fry (0-2) allowed three runs without recording an out. Carlos Rodon gave up two runs and five hits, struck out six and walked one in 7 2/3 innings for the White Sox. He has allowed four runs in his last 22 2/3 innings.

Cubs 5, Cardinals 2 – Hendricks helps Cubs down Cardinals 5-2
Kyle Hendricks struck out eight over seven sharp innings, Ben Zobrist had four hits and the Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-2 on Sunday night to salvage the finale of their weekend series. Hendricks (7-9) retired his last 17 batters, settling into a nice little groove after Marcell Ozuna’s two-run homer in the first inning. The right-hander allowed four hits and walked none in just his second win in his last eight starts. Zobrist and Anthony Rizzo homered as Chicago moved 1 ½ games ahead of second-place Milwaukee in the NL Central. The Brewers lost 8-5 at San Francisco. St. Louis had won three of four. John Gant (3-4) was charged with three runs, two earned, and four hits in 4 1/3 innings.

MLB – Six inducted into Baseball Hall
A crowd that’s estimated to number around 50,000 gathered outside the Clark Sports Center in the village of Cooperstown, New York, for the annual Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Sluggers Chipper Jones and Jim Thome, first-ballot electees, headline a class that also includes Vladimir Guerrero, Trevor Hoffman and former Detroit Tigers teammates Jack Morris and Alan Trammell. Jones spoke first because his wife Taylor is due to give birth to a son on Monday or earlier. With the six new inductees, a record 57 living Hall of Famers gathered on the stage.

Cycling – Thomas wins his 1st Tour de France title
Geraint Thomas has won his first Tour de France title. The Welsh rider with Team Sky successfully defended his lead over second-placed Tom Dumoulin in the mostly ceremonial final stage around the Champs-Elysees.  Thomas- teammate and four-time champion Chris Froome finished third.

NFL – Lions WR Marvin Jones returns to practice after injury
Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones has returned to practice a day after injuring his left leg. Jones was in pads with his teammates and running routes early in Sunday’s practice. He got tangled up with a teammate on Saturday and landed awkwardly. The training staff evaluated his left leg and he was held out of the rest of practice. Lions coach Matt Patricia says Jones is fine, adding the team will be cautious with him. Jones had a career-high 1,101 yards receiving last season. He also had 61 receptions and caught nine touchdown passes.

NFL – Luck felt sore, tired but pain-free after throwing at camp
Andrew Luck says he felt tired and sore after throwing the first two days at the Indianapolis Colts’ training camp but felt no pain in his surgically repaired right shoulder. Luck is scheduled to resume his throwing routine Sunday night when the Colts are expected to work out in full pads.  He did not throw Saturday, as scheduled, though Luck did work on footwork and handoffs before leaving the field. His confidence is increasing, too. Luck acknowledged he was nervous for the first camp workout on Thursday. On Friday, Luck thought he made four or five throws he would be happy with in a game. Indy opens the preseason at Seattle on Aug. 9.

PGA – PGA – Johnson wins at Oakville
Top-ranked Dustin Johnson shot a 6-under 66 for a three-stroke victory over Whee Kim and Byeong Hun An at the RBC Canadian Open in Oakville, Ontario. Johnson opened the final round tied with An, Kim and Kevin Tway before finishing 23 under. Johnson finished second in the tournament twice in 2013 and 2016. Keegan Bradley had a 64 to finish fourth at 19 under. Tway closed with a 76 to fall into a tie for 17th at minus-13.

PGA – Champions – Jimenez captures Senior British Open
Miguel Angel Jimenez has won the Senior British Open, edging defending champion Bernhard Langer by one shot.  Jimenez dropped only one stroke en route to a final round 3-under 69 and ended on 12-under 276 at the historic Old Course. Langer shot a 68 to come second. Americans Kirk Triplett and Scott McCarron tied for third alongside Canada’s Stephen Ames at minus-10.

Golf – LPGA – Jutanugarn wins Ladies Scottish Open
Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn had six birdies in a final round 5-under 66 to win the Ladies Scottish Open by one shot. The 22-year-old Jutanugarn held off the challenge of Australian Minjee Lee at Gullane to claim her 10th LPGA title and third this year. Jutanugarn finished on 13-under 271 and is projected to move to the top of the world rankings.

NASCAR – Busch wins again
Kyle Busch didn’t allow Saturday’s failed inspection to stop him from earning his sixth NASCAR Cup victory of the season. Busch was set to start second in the race, but his No. 18 Toyota was one of 13 cars dumped to back of the pack for flunking post-qualifying inspection. He still managed to tie Kevin Harvick for the most wins this season. The race was red flagged with six laps left in the wake of a violent wreck by Darrell Wallace Jr. Wallace appeared to lose the breaks in his No. 43 Chevrolet and the car shot across the grass and slammed into the wall. He sat on the track and slumped against the car before he taken to the track medical center, where he was deemed OK. Once the race resumed, Busch zipped away and he surged ahead again on the final restart in overtime. Daniel Suarez was second, followed by Alex Bowman, Suarez was the first Mexican driver to win the pole for a Cup race.
