After he connected with the game winner, the Washington Nationals slugger threw his bat in the air and pointed both index fingers toward the sky as a shower of streamers rained upon the crowd of 43,698. NFL – Green Bay Packers says missing playoffs hurt bottom line
The Green Bay Packers’ profit fell by nearly 50 percent in the last fiscal year as the team missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.  President and CEO Mark Murphy says the outlook for the Packers remains strong as the NFL’s only publicly owned team released its 2018 financial statement. The Packers announced a profit from operations of $34.1 million, a steep decline from $65.4 million a year earlier. Expenses soared 11.9 percent, from $376.1 million to $420.9 million, a byproduct of player salaries, coaching changes and travel costs. Revenue increased just 3.1 percent to $454.9 million. Local revenue grew by a scant 0.8 percent. A 7-9 record – the team’s first losing season since 2008 – hurt the bottom line.

NCAA – Michigan State introduces Beekman as AD
Michigan State has officially introduced Bill Beekman as its new athletic director, giving him the job he has held on an interim basis since early February. The school held a news conference Monday across the street from its basketball arena. John Engler, Michigan State’s interim president, says he’s confident Beekman will bring “success and honor” to the athletic department. Beekman took over on an interim basis shortly after athletic director Mark Hollis retired following the sex abuse scandal involving former sports doctor Larry Nassar and just before ESPN reported allegations of sexual assault and violence against women involving Michigan State football and basketball players. The report questioned how the athletic department handled those cases.     Engler appointed Beekman as interim AD on Feb. 5.

Inspector Marty Schulenberg calls it a “case of misadventure.”  Schulenberg adds that Emery’s body was found at about 2:50 p.m. Sunday, about 20 yards from where he went into the water. He says first responders were not able to locate Emery right away so they called the dive unit.  Emery played for Ottawa, Chicago and Philadelphia and won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2013.
