There will be a little extra time on the commute for those who use M-43 in South Haven. The Michigan Department of Transportation is shutting down M-43 entirely for two-tenths of a mile between Blue Star Highway and Aylworth Avenue starting July 16. The closure will last through Thursday, and is the result of needed concrete repairs. M-DOT’s Nick Schirripa says it’s hopefully going to be a quick project.

“Not a huge project, it won’t take them too long to do it, but the closure will last that long because it takes a couple days for the concrete to cure,” Schirripa tells WSJM News. He adds the timing is also intentional, with the goal to be out of the way before the weekend and the arrival of vacationers. Drivers will be detoured along Aylworth and Blue Star Highway. The businesses along that stretch of M-43, Walt Sicard Car Company and Steel Center Supply, can still be accessed using the other roads involved in the detour.
