Michigan farmers may feel the consequences of the latest tariffs between U.S. and China. The Trump administration is putting 25% tariffs on 800 Chinese products worth $34 billion and China is retaliating with tariffs also totaling $34 billion in U.S. goods, including agricultural products. Senator Debbie Stabenow spoke with WKZO News about her concerns.

“The way this is being done, our farmers are going to be caught up in the middle of it, and it’s going to hurt our growers and it’s going to cost us jobs,” Stabenow said.

Senator Debbie Stabenow says this move needs to be much more strategic.

“Instead of calling Canada a national security threat to the United States, we need Canada and all of our allies with us when we take on China, which is the number one concern that I have,” Stabenow said.

Stabenow adds that without those world markets, local farmers won’t be able to sell.
