Fireworks may be a lot of fun for humans during the July 4th holiday, but they can be terrifying for pets. Holly Guild is Director of Capital Area Humane Society in Lansing and has some tips.

“If you know you have a pet that is afraid of thunderstorms or fireworks, leave them in a darkened room in a crate with a TV or a fan or an air conditioner running with the blinds and curtains closed,” Guild says.

Every year in the days leading up to and following Independence Day, shelters across the state see a surge in lost animals as many pets are terrified of fireworks and escape from homes, yards or kennels due to panic.
