The First Church of God in the St. Joseph area is aiming to have 1,000 volunteers out and about in St. Joe, Benton Harbor, and Stevensville this Sunday as part of its sixth Do Something! day. Jenny Fry with the church outreach program tells us the volunteers will do work at other groups that also serve the community.

“We’re working for one of the school systems, and we go into some of the assisted living facilities, and spend time with the residents, do some of the work on their facilities, things like that,” Fry said.

All of the volunteers will be wearing matching Do Something! tee-shirts and working at the same time, giving the day a flash mob feel. You may see them out and about. Right now, about 900 people have signed on to take part, and Fry says you can sign up at MyFirstChurch.com/DoSomething. There will also be an electronics recycling event at the church parking lot on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2:30.
