State Representative Mary Whiteford of Casco Township is pleased to learn a Michigan Senate committee has approved her legislation intended to help prevent sexual assaults by doctors following the Larry Nassar scandal. Whiteford tells WSJM News her bill requires that records of a variety of medical treatments be kept for 15 years.
“I hope that it makes a difference,” Whiteford said. “We can’t fix the bad things that have happened, but perhaps we can look forward and give our families the tools they need to survive, and this will help protect them.”
Whiteford says the Larry Nassar debacle has shown there needs to be clear standards for what constitutes acceptable medical treatments. Her legislation is part of a multi-bill sexual assault legislative package approved by the House in May that’s now moving through the Michigan Senate.
