Indiana Michigan Power is planning a $92 million transmission line improvement project in the region. Spokesperson Schnee Garrett tells WSJM News the Granger-Benton Harbor Transmission Line Rebuild Project will start next spring.

“Approximately 46 miles of 138 kilovolt lines will upgrades to provide a more stable and reliable source of energy,” Garrett said.

Garrett tells us the project will involve replacing existing lattice structures with steel poles. I&M survey crews will start to plan for the work this summer, and the first stretch of the project will begin next spring with the replacement of transmission lines from Granger, Indiana to Niles. Work in the St. Joseph area will take place next summer, and the project will wrap up in the fall of 2021 with work in Benton Harbor. You can find out more about the project right here.
