Wading through streams and searching nets for aquatic insects might not be for everyone but, Van Buren Conservation District Director AJ Brucks tells us she really enjoys it. That’s just what she’ll be doing this Sunday with some volunteers.

“It’s one of my favorite events that we do,” Brucks said. “It’s called the Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program. Volunteers will team up with team captains and we’ll go out to a river site or a creek site throughout Van Buren County.”

Brucks says the number and diversity of insects in a stream is a good indicator of the water quality. Anyone interested in helping the conservation district do stream inspections this Sunday can show up to the Lawrence River Park at 9 a.m.
