It’s a proposal to legalize the sale and possession of up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana for personal use in Michigan, and we’ll find out this week if it makes the November ballot. Josh Hovey, spokesperson for the Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol, tells Michigan News Network Colorado got it right when it comes to legalizing pot.

“Colorado’s governor has been on the record saying that there was a lot of uncertainty, a lot of fear,” Hovey said. “They didn’t want people driving under the influence, they didn’t want teens using, they didn’t want unemployment to go up, all of these things that people worry about when you change a law like this. Colorado’s governor said all of those fears were completely unfounded”.

On Thursday morning, the State Board of Canvassers will consider the proposal. If supported by voters, marijuana would be taxed with the tax dollars going for schools, roads and the cities where the sales take place.
