Tigers 4, Orioles 2 – Tigers snap 5-game skid, beat Baltimore 4-2
Victor Martinez homered for the first time since August, and the Detroit Tigers snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night. Martinez hit a two-run shot in the second, and Jeimer Candelario hit a tiebreaking triple in the fifth for Detroit. Francisco Liriano (2-1) allowed two runs and five hits in five innings. He struck out seven and walked three. Baltimore managed only one hit off four Detroit relievers. Shane Greene pitched a perfect ninth for his third save. Trey Mancini hit a solo homer for the Orioles, who lost their fourth straight. Andrew Cashner (1-2) allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings. The temperature was in the mid-30s by game’s end, but at least the teams were able to get nine innings in. Detroit had home games postponed Saturday and Sunday against the New York Yankees, and the Orioles were postponed Monday at Boston. Miguel Cabrera went 0 for 2 with two walks before leaving the game with back tightness.

A’s 10, White Sox 2 – Birthday boy Lowrie homers as A’s beat White Sox 10-2
Back in an Athletics uniform for the first time since 2011, Trevor Cahill admitted to some nerves when he took the mound for his season debut. A five-run first inning a few minutes later was all the right-hander needed to calm down. Cahill pitched seven scoreless innings in his season debut, Jed Lowrie marked his 34th birthday with a go-ahead home run in a five-run first inning and the A’s beat the Chicago White Sox 10-2 Tuesday night on the 50th anniversary of the A’s first game at the Coliseum.  Stephen Piscotty and Jonathan Lucroy drove in three runs apiece, and Mark Canha added three hits and two RBIs. Oakland extended its winning streak to three with its first series win this season.

Cardinals 5, Cubs 3 – Wainwright pitches Cardinals past Cubs at chilly Wrigley
Adam Wainwright outpitched Tyler Chatwood in frigid conditions at Wrigley Field, helping the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 5-3 on Tuesday night for their fifth consecutive victory. Matt Carpenter had two hits and three RBIs for St. Louis in the first meeting of the season between the longtime rivals. The Cardinals went 5-14 against the NL Central champion Cubs last year, including just one win in nine games at Wrigley. Chatwood (0-3) issued seven walks in 4 2/3 innings, one off his career high. He struck out seven and yielded two runs and one hit.  Javier Baez hit a two-run homer off Greg Holland in the eighth, but Chicago lost for the third time in four games. The Cubs hadn’t played since Saturday after their series finale against Atlanta and Game 1 against St. Louis were postponed due to lousy weather.

MLB – Tigers change game time for Wednesday’s matchup with Orioles
The Detroit Tigers have moved their game Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles to 1:10 p.m. in anticipation of inclement weather later that night. The Tigers say they consulted with the Orioles and Major League Baseball. The game was originally scheduled for 6:40 p.m. Detroit had two games in a home series against the New York Yankees postponed last weekend. Now the Yankees have to come back to Detroit for a doubleheader in June. This week is the only scheduled visit to Detroit for the Orioles.

NFL – DE Ezekiel Ansah signs franchise tag with Detroit Lions
Ezekiel Ansah has signed his franchise tag, signaling his return to the Detroit Lions. The Lions announced the move Tuesday. Detroit designated the defensive end from Ghana as its franchise player nearly two months ago.  Ansah has 44 sacks in five seasons with the Lions. He had 12 sacks last season, bouncing back from an injury-filled 2016 season in which he had a career-low two sacks. He had three sacks in a game three times last season. Detroit drafted him No. 5 overall in 2013 out of BYU, where he was originally more interested in track and basketball than football. He has started 71 of 73 games, playing through injuries the past two years, and has 207 tackles.

Nassar – Olympic medalist Wieber sues USA Gymnastics, Michigan State
gold medalist Jordyn Wieber (WEE’-bur) is the latest gymnast to sue Michigan State University, USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic Committee over former sports doctor Larry Nasssar’s sexual abuse. Wieber was on the “Fierce Five” team that won gold in 2012. She filed a lawsuit in California Tuesday alleging Michigan State and former USA Gymnastics leaders hid Nassar’s conduct from the public and law enforcement. She says the abuse spanned between 2006 and 2012, her medical records were destroyed, and she and her teammates “were not protected.”
