(Lansing, MI – AP) – Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Calley has submitted more than 25,000 nominating signatures to qualify for the ballot. The lieutenant governor turned in the petitions Tuesday at the secretary of state’s office, where he was joined by his wife and their three children. He says his campaign is about “continuing Michigan’s comeback.” He cites job gains and a lower unemployment rate and a plan to help people fill professional and skilled trades jobs of the future. Calley is the fourth Republican candidate to turn in signatures in what has become an increasingly pitched battle between himself and Attorney General Bill Schuette, particularly as super PACs backing them run negative ads on TV.
