Set for this coming Monday is a legislative forum for seniors in St. Joseph. The Area Agency on Aging’s Christine Vanlandingham tells WSJM News the 11th annual Older Michiganians Day Legislative Forum will held at the agency’s office on Lakeview Avenue.

“We have a platform of issues that really talk about what’s important to seniors in the way of being able to age independently and having safe communities to live in,” Vanlandingham said.

On hand will be state representatives Kim LaSata, Dave Pagel, Aaron Miller, and Beth Griffin, along with state Senator John Proos and a representative of state Senator Tonya Schuitmaker. Vanlandingham says the forum is a chance for older Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren county residents to speak directly with their representatives in Lansing. She says the issues most likely to come up are accessibility, care-giving concerns, and preventing elder abuse. The forum will be at the Area Agency on Aging’s office in St. Joseph at 1:30 p.m. Monday.
