Lawmakers Talk Marijuana Licensing

State officials held an education session Monday in East Lansing for medical marijuana license applicants. The topics included construction code standards for facilities, along with information on the paying the excise tax due to the state. Director of the Bureau of Medical Marijuana Regulation Andrew Brisbo told Michigan News Network applying will also be costly.

“There is a $6,000 application fee for any licensee that covers the cost of the background investigation, and we just announced the regulatory assessment at the last meeting,” Brisbo said.

Brisbo says that even if a marijuana legalization proposal gets on the ballot this November and is approved by voters, Michigan will continue to maintain a separate medical marijuana system.
