United Way Celebrates 75 Years

The United Way of Southwest Michigan is celebrating another successful fundraising year.

On Thursday, the United Way held its 75th anniversary celebration, noting it managed to raise more than $4.2 million in the latest capital campaign. In its 75 year history, the United Way of Southwest Michigan has raised more than $105 million total.

The organization also handed out its yearly awards at Thursday’s Mendel Center celebration.

Taking home the Live United Award was the Whirlpool Corporation, which was saluted for embodying the United Way’s mission and vision.

The Large Business of the Year Award went to the Cook nuclear power plant, Medium Size Business of the Year was Kinexus, and Small Business of the Year was Competitive Edge. Mid-West Family Broadcasting also took David J. Weichhand Award for its work this past year on behalf of the United Way of Southwest Michigan.
