The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department has issued the following notice regarding donations from the public to help those affected by flooding this week:

During the recent flood and heavy precipitation natural disaster, which caused the County of Berrien to declare a Local State of Emergency, numerous citizens and businesses have been displaced.

The community has been extremely generous and wonderful in trying to make donations and provide volunteer assistance.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management Office is currently working with local volunteer organizations to establish one location for donations to be delivered to, so that the donations can then be delivered to the individuals and locations, where the items are needed.

A Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) may also be established. A VRC is a process to register, screen, and place spontaneous volunteers in available opportunities in times of disaster.

We understand the generosity of the citizens in wanting to donate their time and goods to those suffering from this natural disaster. However it’s still early in the process, and as soon as the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management Office establishes one volunteer organization, further instructions will be provided on how to volunteer time and where to drop off donations.
