With the release of President Donald Trump’s fiscal year 2019 budget, Congressman Dan Kildee of Flint told Michigan News Network this week the budget fails to meet America’s infrastructure needs and he disagrees with cuts to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

“Here’s what I hope happens,” Kildee said. “The president’s opinions notwithstanding, Congress does its job. We write the budget. It’s up to Congress, not the president. It’s up to Congress to take bills through the appropriations process that reflect the priorities of the country.”

Kildee says he hopes Congress writes its own budget and does not start with the president’s priorities. He says they haven’t seen a successful budget process in a while.
