Just two women’s basketball coaches had earned 1,000 career victories before Tuesday. That number has doubled as Connecticut’s Geno Auriemma (ohr-ee-EH’-muh) and Syliva Hatchell of North Carolina reached the milestone to join Pat Summitt and Tara Vanderveer. Auriemma improved to 1,000-135 at UConn as the top-ranked Huskies cruised past Oklahoma 88-64. Napheesa Collier had a game-high 21 points to help Auriemma become the fastest coach to win 1,000 games. Hours earlier, Hatchell reached the mark when the Tar Heels whipped Grambling State 79-63. Hatchell is 1,000-376 during a 43-year career that started with 11 seasons at Francis Marion.

NFL – Packers QB Aaron Rodgers done for season, put on IR
Aaron Rodgers is done for the season. The Green Bay Packers put their star quarterback on injured reserve Tuesday, a day after they were eliminated from playoff contention. Rodgers missed seven games after breaking his right collarbone Oct. 15 against Minnesota. He returned on Sunday, but the Packers lost 31-24 at Carolina. Atlanta’s win against Tampa Bay on Monday night ended Green Bay’s eight-year run of consecutive postseason berths. Brett Hundley will get the start for Green Bay in Saturday’s home game against the Vikings. Joe Callahan was signed as his backup. The Packers also released fullback Joe Kerridge from the active roster and quarterback Jerod Evans from the practice squad.

NFL – Bears guard Kyle Long has surgery to alleviate neck pain
Chicago Bears guard Kyle Long has had surgery to alleviate neck pain. The three-time Pro Bowl lineman posted a picture of himself on Twitter wearing a neck brace in a hospital room late Tuesday night and wrote he “crushed surgery today.” He called the operation “an important procedure that will lead to much relief.”  Long has ended the past two seasons on injured reserve. He opted to play in 2016 after tearing his left labrum in the preseason. Long was planning to repair it after that season, but a major ankle injury late in the year required surgery and prevented him from fixing his shoulder. Long said he was “nowhere near” 100 percent coming into this season and the shoulder injury led to the neck problem.

NCAA Football – Michigan confirms Patterson’s transfer from Ole Miss
Michigan has confirmed that quarterback Shea Patterson is joining the program as a transfer from Mississippi. Patterson had previously said he’d be joining the Wolverines. His move comes after Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh went through three starting quarterbacks this past season. In seven games last season, Patterson passed for 2,259 yards and 17 touchdowns, with nine interceptions. He is recovering from a right knee injury that cost him the final month, but he should be healthy enough to compete in 2018. Ole Miss was hit with NCAA sanctions recently that included a bowl ban next season. The NCAA said Mississippi’s seniors could transfer without sitting out next season. Patterson doesn’t qualify for that _ he just finished his sophomore season _ but could petition the NCAA to be immediately eligible.
