MLB – Cubs part ways with Bosio at pitching coach
The Chicago Cubs have parted ways with pitching coach Chris Bosio as part of a major shakeup to Joe Maddon’s staff. The Cubs also hired Chili Davis as their hitting coach, replacing replaces John Mallee. Brian Butterfield will be the new third base coach for Chicago, replacing Gary Jones.

Lightning 3, Red Wings 2 – Stamkos, Kucherov lead Lightning past Red Wings 3-2
Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov became the seventh set of teammates in NHL history to start the season with point streaks of at least 11 games, and the surging Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 on Thursday night. Kucherov got his 12th goal in the first period, and setup Stamkos’ power-play goal from the low left circle that put Tampa Bay (9-1-1) up 2-1 at 6:22 of the third.  The duo also tied Martin St. Louis’ team season-opening point streak set in 2009-10. Tampa Bay’s Andrei Vasilevskiy made 29 saves in his 100th NHL game and 50th win (50-33-8).  Frans Nielsen had two goals and Jimmy Howard stopped 35 shots for the Red Wings (4-6-1), who have lost six straight (0-5-1). Detroit has lost nine straight games against Tampa Bay.

Bulls 91, Hawks 86 – Markkanen helps Bulls top Hawks 91-86 for 1st win
Lauri Markkanen scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half, including a key 3-pointer with 48.5 seconds left, and the Chicago Bulls beat the Atlanta Hawks 91-86 on Thursday night for their first win of the season. Markkanen also grabbed 13 rebounds, leading a dominant rebounding effort for Chicago. Robin Lopez had 16 points and eight rebounds and reserve David Nwaba finished with 15 points and 11 boards, helping the Bulls to a whopping 62-40 advantage on the glass.  Marco Belinelli made five 3-pointers on his way to 23 points for Atlanta.  Kent Bazemore scored 16 points and Mike Muscala finished with 14 points and 10 boards.

Ravens 40, Dolphins 0 – Ravens lose Flacco, beat Dolphins 40-0 behind defense
Joe Flacco threw a touchdown pass before being knocked from the game with a concussion, and the Baltimore Ravens frustrated quarterback Matt Moore and the Miami Dolphins in a 40-0 victory Thursday night.  Alex Collins ran for a career-high 113 yards, and Baltimore (4-4) returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the most lopsided shutout in franchise history. In the midst of one of his best performances of the season, Flacco was struck in the helmet by Miami linebacker Kiko Alonso while sliding at the end of an impromptu run. Flacco’s helmet flew off his head, and the 10-year quarterback appeared dazed as he struggled to his feet. The play occurred with 3 minutes left in the second quarter. Alonso was flagged for unnecessary roughness, providing Baltimore with a first down that ultimately turned into a touchdown.

NIU 30, EMU 27 – OT – NIU rallies from 14-point deficit, tops EMU 30-27 in OT
Marcus Jones had the only touchdown in overtime and Northern Illinois scored on three of its final four drives to rally past Eastern Michigan 30-27 on Thursday night.  Eastern Michigan’s Paul Fricano missed three field goals, including a 42-yarder at the end of regulation. He opened the extra period with a 35-yard field goal after the Eagles ran three plays. D.J. Brown gained 12-yards along the right side on NIU’s first play of OT and Jones won it with a 9-yard run.  Eastern Michigan falls to 2-6 and 0-4 in the MAC.
