The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is saluting companies that hire disabled workers, and also saluting those workers themselves. At a ceremony on Thursday, department spokesperson Bob Wheaton tells WSJM News several companies were recognized for appreciating the skills of disabled workers, including Perrigo in Allegan.

“Perrigo has really fully embraced diversity efforts and has sought the support of the Michigan Rehabilitation Services Business Network Division to help make a cultural shift company-wide as far as employing individuals with disabilities,” Wheaton said.

Individuals and companies recognized this week were presented with awards engraved by students at the Michigan Career and Technical Institute, which teaches career skills to adults with disabilities. Wheaton says the annual ceremony is always inspiring.
