A Grand Junction man who allegedly held police at bay for 15 hours at his barricaded home in June 2016 is on trial in Van Buren County. Jason Kohlhoff is charged with six counts of attempted murder. Investigators have testified he holds strong anti-government beliefs and had been writing threatening letters to a South Haven judge. A detective who tried to question him about it says Kohlhoff produced a shotgun and discharged it once as a warning. The standoff followed. Hundreds of rounds were exchanged but no one was hit. They had to assault the home with an armored vehicle to convince Kohlhoff to surrender. He was initially found to be incompetent to stand trial but with treatment, got better and day two of his trial will come today and the suspect may testify.
