Chiefs 29, Redskins 20 – Butker’s field goals send Chiefs to 29-20 win over Redskins
The Kansas City Chiefs remain the NFL’s only undefeated team after beating the Washington Redskins 29-20 Monday night. They have now won their first four games of the season, and Washington fell to 2-2.  Kansas City won the game on a 43-yard field goal by kicker Harrison Butker with 8 seconds left. He had been signed off the Carolina practice squad earlier in the week.  The Chiefs put an exclamation point on the win when linebacker Justin Houston picked up a fumble as the Redskins were trying to keep the game alive and returned it for a game-ending touchdown. Washington fell to 2-2 for the season.

NFL – NFL suspends Bears LB Trevathan 2 games for hit on Adams
The NFL has suspended Chicago Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan for two games for his frightening hit against Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams. The league announced the punishment on Saturday. Trevathan has three business days to appeal the suspension. Adams was taken off the field on a stretcher in the third quarter Thursday night after getting hit in the head during a tackle by Trevathan. The game was delayed for about 5 minutes while medical personnel tended to Adams. He tweeted Friday that he was at home and "feeling great." Trevathan was called for an unnecessary roughness penalty following Adams’ 8-yard catch but was not ejected. He is eligible to return following Chicago’s game against Baltimore on Oct. 15.

NFL – Bears rookie to get chance to start
The Chicago Bears are going to give prized rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky a try.   The team says the No. 2 overall draft pick from North Carolina will start against the Minnesota Vikings next Monday night after Mike Glennon struggled in the first four games. It’s hardly a surprise that the Bears (1-3) will go with Trubisky considering how badly Glennon has struggled. He has five interceptions and three lost fumbles. He got picked off twice, lost a fumble on a sack and had another snap ricochet off his knee for a lost fumble in Thursday’s 35-14 loss at Green Bay.

NFL – Vikings rookie running back out for the season
The Minnesota Vikings say running back Dalvin Cook will miss the remainder of his rookie season because of a torn ACL in his left knee. Coach Mike Zimmer confirmed the diagnosis on Monday. Cook was injured trying to cut for more yards near the end of a run in the third quarter of Minnesota’s loss to Detroit on Sunday. Cook lost a fumble on the play and needed help off the field. He was on crutches, wearing a bulky brace afterward. With 354 yards, Cook is third in the NFL in rushing. He has two touchdowns, plus 11 receptions for 90 yards.  Latavius Murray will take over as the lead running back for the Vikings (2-2), who play at Chicago next Monday.

NCAA Football – Speight out against Spartans
Michigan has lost quarterback Wilton Speight for multiple weeks with an undisclosed injury. Coach Jim Harbaugh says John O’Korn will start Saturday night against Michigan State. Speight was hurt in the first quarter during a win at Purdue. Harbaugh later referred to it as a "soft tissue" injury.

NCAA Football – Suspended Michigan player charged in alleged assault
Suspended Michigan football player Nate Johnson is facing one charge of domestic assault. School spokeswoman Diane Brown says the alleged assault happened outside of a dormitory and Johnson was arrested nearby. The sophomore cornerback from Thompson’s Station, Tennessee, was suspended the same day. He hasn’t played this year.

NCAA Basketball – Panel OKs firing of Pitino
Louisville’s athletic board has authorized interim President Greg Postel to proceed with firing men’s basketball coach Rick Pitino in the wake of a federal bribery investigation involving the program. The school’s Athletics Association, a separate body of officials that oversees Louisville’s sports program, unanimously approved a resolution to fire Pitino after meeting for more than two hours on Monday. Pitino was placed on unpaid administrative leave last week after law enforcement officials announced the probe and the school acknowledged its inclusion in the investigation. Though Pitino is not named in court complaints, Postel says the allegations violated his contract and provided just cause to be placed on unpaid leave.  Athletic director Tom Jurich was placed on administrative leave and Postel says he plans to announce an interim replacement Tuesday.

NHL – Blackhawks assign F Vinnie Hinostroza to minors
The Chicago Blackhawks have assigned forward Vinnie Hinostroza to Rockford of the American Hockey League. Hinostroza, who was selected by Chicago in the sixth round of the 2012 draft, had six goals and eight assists in 49 games with the Blackhawks last season. He made his NHL debut in 2015. Chicago also placed defenseman Michal Rozsival on long-term injured reserve on Monday.     The Blackhawks open the season on Thursday night against Pittsburgh.
