Indians 11, Tigers 0 – Blazing Indians extend win streak to 19 with blowout of Tigers
The Cleveland Indians are one away from tying the longest winning streak in American League history. The Indians made it 19 consecutive wins as Francisco Lindor drove in four runs and Jose Ramirez added a two-run homer in an 11-0 dismantling of Detroit. Ramirez finished with three RBIs before leaving the game with a bruised left forearm. Carlos Carrasco was sharp over six innings scattering seven hits while striking out nine. Cleveland’s winning streak is the longest in the majors since Oakland set the league mark with 20 in a row 15 years ago. The Indians haven’t lost since Aug. 23 and have outscored their opponents 132-32 in the streak. Most important, Cleveland’s magic number to win the AL Central is down to six.
White Sox 11, Royals 3 – Abreu, Engel lead White Sox to 11-3 win over Royals
Jose Abreu had four hits, Adam Engel hit a three-run homer and the White Sox pounded the Royals 11-3. Abreu, who hit for the cycle Saturday and had two home runs Sunday, drove in two and scored once while raising his average to .306. He was a homer shy of another cycle. Engel went deep off Brandon Maurer during a six-run sixth. Yolmer Sanchez, Yoan Moncada and Abreu, the first three White Sox hitters, combined to go 9 for 16 with six runs and four RBIs. Moncada had his first career three-hit game. Reynaldo Lopez (1-3) gave up three runs and eight hits in six-plus innings to pick up his first victory since Sept. 29, 2016. Royals starter Jason Hammel (8-11) was pulled after giving up five runs in 3 1/3 innings.

MLB – Surgery for Fulmer
The Detroit Tigers say ace Michael Fulmer will undergo season-ending elbow surgery on Tuesday to repair a damaged nerve. Manager Brad Ausmus said Monday that the All-Star will not throw for “three or four months,” but that the 24-year-old is expected to make a full recovery and should be ready for spring training. Fulmer made his last start on Aug. 29. He went 10-12 with a 3.83 ERA in 25 starts. Fulmer was the AL Rookie of the Year last season after going 11-7 with a 3.06 ERA in 26 games.

Sam Bradford completed 27 of his 32 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns as the Minnesota Vikings whipped the New Orleans Saints, 29-19. Stefon Diggs seven receptions for 93 yards, including a pair of touchdown grabs in the final 4:08 of the first half. Rookie Dalvin Cook rushed for 127 yards in his first game since taking over the top running back chores from Adrian Peterson, who finished with 18 yards on six carries for the Saints.
Broncos 24, Chargers 21 – Broncos escape
Shelby Harris deflected Younghoe Koo’s 44-yard field goal attempt with a second left to preserve the Denver Broncos’ 24-21 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Denver took a 24-7 lead into the fourth quarter but had two turnovers that were converted into Philip Rivers touchdown passes. Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian threw two TD passes to Bennie Fowler and ran for another score.
NFL – Chicago Bears WR Kevin White out with broken collarbone
Wide receiver Kevin White suffered a broken collarbone against the Atlanta Falcons and will go on injured reserve for the third straight season. The seventh pick of the 2015 draft, White was injured in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s season-opening loss and came off the field immediately, favoring the shoulder slightly. The team confirmed the severity of the injury Monday. White went on injured reserve last year after suffering a spiral fracture to his left fibula in the fourth game. White missed all of 2015 with a stress fracture to his left tibia. In three seasons, White has played five games and has 21 receptions for 193 yards without a touchdown. The Bears are now without both of the starting receivers they started with at camp. Cameron Meredith suffered a torn left anterior cruciate ligament in the third preseason game against Tennessee.
NFL – NFL moving quickly to reverse halt on Elliott’s 6-game ban
The NFL is moving quickly in hopes of reversing a federal judge’s decision that blocked the league’s six-game suspension of Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott in a domestic violence case in Ohio. The league has asked the judge who ruled in Elliott’s favor to stop the preliminary injunction that cleared last year’s NFL rushing leader to play while the case is in court. A notice of appeal was also filed with the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. The NFL’s latest filings came about 12 hours after Elliott rushed for 104 yards in the Cowboys’ 19-3 win over the New York Giants at home Sunday night. Elliott had already been cleared to play in the season opener when U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant granted a temporary restraining order and injunction blocking the suspension Friday.
MHSAA – Fennville football coach place on leave
Fennville high school football coach Brian Sackett has been placed on administrative leave after an alleged incident with one of his players during the Blackhawks loss to Coloma. The school is investigating whether Sackett grabbed and shook the player by his collar while yelling at him for what the parent of the player says was 10 seconds. The incident happened in the first quarter of last Friday’s 40-20 loss at Coloma. The parent told the Holland Sentinel that after the player broke away, Sackett dragged him back and continued to yell. The player then got away again, only to have the coach reportedly throw him to the ground. Fennville schools have said they are investigating the incident, the teams’ assistant coaches are running the team for the time being.
