Set for next month is the third annual Berrien County Area Law Enforcement Torch Run. Michigan State Police Lieutenant Melinda Logan tells WSJM News the run and walk in St. Joseph is about one mile, and it’s to raise money for the Special Olympics of Michigan.

“We really try to help protect people who can’t protect themselves, and also enjoy the excitement and love for life that many of the athletes have,” Logan said.

Officers from law enforcement agencies all over the region will be on hand for the September 11 event, and you’re being invited to take part. We have a link to the registration page right here. The walk will take participants from the band shell to Silver Beach and over to the Whirlpool fountain below the bluff. It starts at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 11.
