MLB – Major League Baseball
Last Night
Detroit Tigers 2, New York Yankees 2
Toronto Blue Jays 5, Chicago White Sox 1
Arizona Diamondbacks 3, Chicago Cubs 0

Tigers 2, Yankees 0 – Tigers blank Yankees
The New York Yankees had to sit through a pair of lengthy rain delays before dropping one game behind the first-place Boston Red Sox in the AL East. Jordan Zimmermann combined with two relievers on a seven-hitter as the Tigers downed the Yankees, 2-0 in a game delayed more than 4 1/2 hours by showers. Zimmerman entered the game with a 5.69 ERA before scattering six hits over seven innings. Justin Upton’s RBI double put the Tigers ahead to stay just three batters into the game. Brian McCann added an RBI single in the fourth to help Detroit beat the Yankees for the second straight day. The game began 86 minutes late and was held by more than three hours by rain in the bottom of the seventh.

Blue Jays 5, White Sox 1 – Happ strikes out 10, Blue Jays top White Sox 5-1
J.A. Happ had a season-high 10 strikeouts in seven innings, matching his longest start of the season, as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Chicago White Sox 5-1 on Wednesday. Happ (4-8) gave up a run and six hits while walking one to get his first win since July 4. He last got through seven innings in his first start of the season on April 5. Justin Smoak extended his hitting streak to nine games and reached base three times for the Blue Jays, who won two of three in a matchup of last-place teams. Steve Pearce and Josh Donaldson added solo home runs. Roberto Osuna entered with two on and nobody out in the ninth inning, and set down three straight batters to earn his 27th save. Derek Holland (5-11) gave up two runs and five hits with four walks in six innings.

Diamondbacks 3, Cubs 0 – Godley dominates over 6 innings, Diamondbacks beat Cubs 3-0
Zach Godley pitched three-hit ball over six innings, Jake Lamb drove in all the runs, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the surging Chicago Cubs 3-0 on Wednesday night.  The loss was just the fourth in 18 games since the All-Star break for the NL Central-leading Cubs. The defending champions got shut down by Godley after pouring on a season-high 16 runs in Tuesday’s romp.  Lamb hit a two-run double against Jake Arrieta in the sixth and an RBI double off Justin Wilson in the eighth.  Godley (5-4) was every bit as stingy after tossing seven scoreless innings in a win at St. Louis last week. Godley struck out five and walked two. In his past two starts, the right-hander has allowed seven hits while striking out 12 and walking four.  Jake Arrieta (10-8) allowed two runs (one earned) and three hits in seven innings. He struck out eight and walked two. To Maddon, it might have been 2015 NL Cy Young Award winner’s best start of the season.

NASCAR – NASCAR makes start/finish line new overtime race marker
NASCAR has standardized the location of the overtime line, starting with this weekend’s races at Watkins Glen. NASCAR says the start/finish line will serve as the OT marker at every race the rest of this season. The overtime line is the line drivers must reach under green flag conditions following a restart for the race to become official. The line had usually been marked on the backstretch. Drivers must complete a full lap when a race goes into overtime for it to be considered complete. If the race leader does not reach the start/finish line under green, that race will have another restart.
