Yankees 7, Tigers 3 – Judge snaps slump with 34th HR, Yankees top Tigers 7-3
Aaron Judge broke out of a slump with his 34th home run, regaining sole possession of the major league lead, and Chase Headley sparked the New York Yankees at the plate Monday night in their 7-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers.  Luis Severino beat Michael Fulmer in a matchup of young All-Stars on the mound, though neither was at his best. Hours after the Yankees upgraded their rotation by acquiring Sonny Gray from Oakland at the trade deadline, Headley put the AL East leaders ahead to stay with a two-run double in a four-run fourth inning aided by second baseman Ian Kinsler’s crucial error. Todd Frazier followed with a two-run single, and Judge hit a solo shot in the fifth to snap a tie with Miami slugger Giancarlo Stanton atop the leaderboard. Headley finished with three hits as New York won for the ninth time in 11 games.  Fulmer (10-9) was touched up for seven runs, six earned, and seven hits over six-plus innings. Last season’s AL Rookie of the Year has lost three straight starts.

White Sox 7, Blue Jays 6 – White Sox rally past Blue Jays 7-6
Matt Davidson singled in Leury Garcia with two outs in the ninth inning for his second game-ending hit in as many days, and the Chicago White Sox rallied to beat Toronto Blue Jays 7-6 on Monday night after losing top prospect Yoan Moncada to a right knee injury.  Adam Engel sparked the winning rally with a one-out single against Roberto Osuna (3-2). Garcia then was hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second.  After Tyler Saladino struck out swinging, Jose Abreu tied it at 6 with a single to right. Davidson followed with another base hit, and then was mobbed by his teammates as he ran around the infield. The White Sox trailed 6-1 before they scored four times in the eighth, capped by consecutive homers for Davidson and Yolmer Sanchez. Davidson also hit a game-ending, two-run homer in Sunday’s 3-1 victory over Cleveland. Chris Beck (2-1) pitched a scoreless inning for the win, helped by right fielder Alen Hanson bringing in a foul popup tipped into the air by first baseman Abreu.

MLB – Cubs issue World Series championship ring to Bartman
Steve Bartman is getting a World Series championship ring from the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs announced Monday they were giving a ring to the fan remembered for deflecting a foul ball that appeared destined to land in left fielder Moises Alou’s glove with Chicago five outs from the World Series in 2003.  Bartman was harassed after the incident and has avoided the spotlight since. Chicago beat Cleveland last fall for its first championship since 1908l. The Cubs say they “hope this provides closure on an unfortunate chapter” and Bartman “continues to be fully embraced by this organization.” Bartman says he is “deeply moved.” He adds he hopes “we all can learn from my experience to view sports as entertainment and prevent harsh scapegoating.”

MLB – Gray in pinstripes, Darvish a Dodger
The Los Angeles Dodgers have added Yu Darvish to their rotation as they push toward the National League West title. The Rangers received three minor leaguers for Darvish, who is 6-9 with a 4.01 ERA in 22 starts this season. The four-time All-Star has struggled in his last eight starts, going 0-5 with a 5.81 ERA.  The New York Yankees have picked up starting pitcher Sonny Gray from the Oakland Athletics for shortstop-outfielder Jorge Mateo, pitcher James Kaprielian and outfielder Dustin Fowler. Gray is 6-5 with a 3.43 ERA this season and has been outstanding in his last six starts, going 4-2 with a 1.37 earned run average. In addition, the Yankees also receive $1.5 million in international signing bonus allocation from the A’s.

MLB – Woman says she had teen sexual relationship with Pete Rose
A woman says she had a sexual relationship with former baseball great Pete Rose in the 1970s, starting when she was 14 or 15 years old. Her sworn testimony was submitted Monday as part of a federal lawsuit Rose filed last year in Philadelphia against a lawyer whose investigation got him kicked out of baseball for gambling. Rose alleges John Dowd defamed him in 2015 by saying Rose raped girls during spring training. Rose’s lawyer says the woman’s submitted testimony is “a big distraction” that shows Dowd can’t defend himself in the case. The woman, identified as “Jane Doe,” says they began a sexual relationship in Cincinnati in 1973 that lasted several years. Rose says in a statement accompanying Monday’s filing that he did have a relationship with the woman — starting when she was 16, which is the age of consent in Ohio.

NFL – Lions sign Nick Becton, remove Rolan Milligan from PUP list
The Detroit Lions have signed tackle Nick Becton and put tackle Tony Hills on the reserve/retired list. The team announced the moves Monday. Detroit also removed safety Rolan Milligan from the active/physically unable to perform list. Becton appeared in five games for the Chicago Bears during the 2015 season, and he also played in one game for the San Diego Chargers two years earlier. He entered the NFL in 2013 as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Virginia Tech.

Olympics – Los Angeles reaches deal with Olympic leaders for 2028 Games
Los Angeles has reached an agreement with international Olympic leaders that will open the way for the city to host the 2028 Summer Games.  City Council President Herb Wesson’s office on Monday confirmed the deal. Spokeswoman Caolinn Mejza says the pact is expected to be reviewed by the council later this week. The agreement to be formally announced later Monday follows a vote earlier this month by the International Olympic Committee to seek a deal to award the 2024 and 2028 Games. Paris is widely seen as the favorite for 2024. With the agreement, Los Angeles would get 2028. The deal would make LA a three-time Olympic city, after hosting the 1932 and 1984 Games.

Golf – PGA – McIlroy reportedly fires caddie
Rory McIlroy reportedly plans to have someone else carry his bag. Published reports say the former world’s No. 1 player has fired caddie J.P. Fitzgerald and will use his best friend at the Bridgestone Invitational and PGA Championship. Reuters reported that McIlroy has parted with Fitzgerald, while the Telegraph says Harry Diamond will serve as his caddie for the next two events.

WNBA – AP sources: Sky trade Young and Boyette to Dream
Two people familiar with the deal say the Chicago Sky have traded Imani Boyette and Tamera Young to Atlanta for Jordan Hooper and the Dream’s first-round pick in next year’s draft.  The people spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press on Monday because the deal hadn’t been officially announced yet. Young is averaging 10.8 points for the Sky, who are in 10th place in the WNBA playoff race. Boyette is averaging 4.6 points and 4.4 rebounds. She was the 10th pick by the Sky in the 2016 draft. Hooper is averaging 2.6 points for the Dream, who are in eighth place in the postseason chase.

MWL – Dragons Siri sets new league record
Dayton Dragons center fielder Jose Siri has broken a 40 year old Midwest League record, the Reds prospect has recorded a base hit in 36 consecutive games, breaking the league mark set in 1977 by Tony Toups of the Waterloo Indians.  Siri was 0 for 3 with three strikeouts before coming to bat in the 8th inning of Dayton’s 4-3 loss at Fort Wayne.  On an 0-2 count, Siri lined a single to left field to break the record.   Siri’s streak is the longest since Robert Fick’s 32 game streak in 1997 for the West Michigan Whitecaps.
