Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette has terminated a contract with a firm the state had hired to conduct a risk analysis of Enbridge’s Line 5 in the Straits of Mackinac. Spokesperson Andrea Bitely tells WSJM News there was a conflict of interest.

“It was discovered that the company had an employee that worked on both our Line 5 project, as well as a project with Enbridge, and that is a violation of the contract that we had in place with them,” Bitely said.

The firm, DNV-GL, was to deliver a report to the state on the possibility of a break in the underwater pipeline. Bitely tells us the state has not received, and now will not receive, that report. Instead, another firm will be hired.
