Arizona Diamondbacks 7, Detroit Tigers 6
Chicago White Sox 6, Baltimore Orioles 1
Chicago Cubs 14, New York Mets 3

Diamondbacks 7, Tigers 6 – Peralta homer in 9th lifts Diamondbacks over Tigers 7-6
Arizona’s David Peralta led off and swung at Detroit closer Justin Wilson’s first pitch, hitting a solo home run to left center and lifting the Diamondbacks to a 7-6 win over the Detroit Tigers.  The Diamondbacks, who improved to 8-1 in interleague games, gave starter Zack Greinke a 6-0 lead in the third inning before the Tigers rallied for six runs in the sixth to tie it.  Arizona reliever Archie Bradley (2-1) pitched a scoreless eighth to pick up the win and Fernando Rodney had a perfect ninth for his 17th save. Greinke went 5 2/3 innings and allowed five runs, all unearned, and five hits.  Wilson (2-2) took the loss after allowing the homer to Peralta. Starter Buck Farmer went 2 1/3 innings and allowed six runs on nine hits. He was 2-0 and had gone 13 straight scoreless innings before Tuesday.

White Sox 6, Orioles 1 – Matt Davidson’s slam powers White Sox over Orioles, 6-1
Rookie Matt Davidson hit his first career grand slam, Derek Holland scattered eight hits over six innings and the Chicago White Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-1. Jose Abreu went 3 for 4 and Avisail Garcia had a two-run double as Chicago won its second straight after dropping nine of 11.  Davidson leads the White Sox with 12 homers in 163 at-bats.  Manny Machado had an RBI-single for the Orioles, who dropped to 31-32 with the loss — the first time they’ve been under .500 since Oct. 3, 2015.  Holland (5-6) faced trouble in every inning, but managed to give up just one run. The left-hander had lost his three previous starts, allowing 15 earned runs in 13 innings (10.38 ERA) during that span.

Cubs 14, Mets 3 – Rizzo leads off, goes long; Happ hits slam as Cubs rout Mets
Anthony Rizzo began the game with a long home run after a surprising move to the leadoff spot, rookie Ian Happ hit his first career grand slam and the Cubs trounced the New York Mets 14-3 on Tuesday night. Backed by a season-best seven-run second inning, the World Series champs snapped a nine-game skid on the road and moved back to .500 through 64 games. The Cubs had lost five of six overall.  Jon Lester (4-4) earned his 150th win and matched a season high with 10 strikeouts. He allowed a run and five hits over seven innings.  Rizzo, batting leadoff for the first time in his career, had two hits, three RBI and a bases-loaded walk. He’s reached safely in 21 of his last 36 plate appearances.  Rizzo got the Cubs rolling with a 462-foot shot to center field off Zack Wheeler (3-4). Chicago then batted around in the second, and the biggest blow came when Happ went the opposite way with the bases loaded for his sixth homer.

NHL/NBA – Pens and Warriors parades set
People in some parts of the country are sweating in a broiling heat, but the games of winter have only now come to rest for the year. Victory parades are the order of the day in two professional sports leagues, the National Hockey League and the National Basketball Association. The Penguins of Pittsburgh go first, with a celebration through the streets of the western Pennsylvania city later today in a festive occasion where the most familiar scene will be players passing around the hotly-pursued Stanley Cup. And a day after the NBA’s Golden State Warriors reclaimed the championship trophy taken away in 2016 by the Cleveland Cavaliers, people in the city of Oakland were excitedly preparing for a parade Thursday to celebrate the Warriors title. Fans have been snapping up victory shirts and hats following a night of celebrating, and city crews are busy hanging championship banners along the parade route. The parade will take place Thursday morning in downtown Oakland, following the same route as the team’s parade to celebrate the 2015 NBA title.

Bertuzzi registered nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points in 19 playoff games for Grand Rapids.  Grand Rapids also defeated Syracuse in 6 games to win the Calder Cup in 2013.  Grand Rapids coach Todd Nelson, won his first Calder Cup as head coach, he’s also won a cup as an assistant coach and as a player.  Nelson was the first player ever signed by Grand Rapids when the franchise began in 1996.

NFL – Man crashes Lions practice
A man had to be escorted from the Detroit Lions’ minicamp after approaching a field and shouting as players and coaches were holding practice. The man went past an unlocked gate and approached the field, at one point yelling “Yo, 59!” Lions employees prevented him from getting closer as he continued to scream toward the players and coaches. He was led away and off the premises.

NCAAFB – MSU players meet with media
Michigan State football players were made available to the media in a rare chance for them to speak to reporters during a tumultuous offseason. It was an opportunity for players to talk about what they can do to improve the program’s image. Michigan State dismissed three players from the team last week after criminal sexual conduct charges were brought against them, and another player was dismissed after a separate criminal sexual conduct charge against him in April.

NCAAFB – Sheldon White promoted
Michigan State has promoted Sheldon White to be the football team’s director of player personnel.
