Water levels on the Great Lakes are expected to be both higher than average and higher than last year throughout the summer and into the fall. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers tells us lots of rain in April and May pushed the Great Lakes levels higher than forecast. Now, the predicted summer water levels on Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, St. Clair, and Erie will be at their highest levels since around 1996. Also, Lake Ontario set a new water level record in May. Higher water levels are better for shipping on the Great Lakes. The Army Corps of Engineers issues its Great Lakes water level forecast every month.
