The Michigan House Health Policy Committee has approved a couple of bills from state Representative Beth Griffin, of Mattawan, designed to educate Michigan students about the dangers of opioid abuse. She tells WSJM News she wanted to get on top of the growing problem.

“Health education has a lot of good information packed into it,” Griffin said. “Alcohol abuse, cocaine, marijuana, but what’s not being discussed is prescription opioids.”

Griffin’s bills would establish a framework for opioid addiction education in Michigan schools. They’re part of a larger package tackling the problem from several angles. The plan now goes to the full Michigan House.
