Rangers 5, Tigers 2 – Darvish tops Tigers again, Napoli homers as Texas rolls 5-2
Mike Napoli homered to the camera platform beyond center field, and Yu Darvish beat Detroit yet again, helping the Texas Rangers to a 5-2 victory over the Tigers on Sunday night.  Darvish (5-2) has won all seven of his starts against the Tigers, although this one was a bit of a struggle. He allowed two runs and five hits in five innings, but Napoli put the Rangers ahead 3-2 with his solo shot in the fifth off Matthew Boyd (2-4). Pete Kozma also went deep for Texas, and the Rangers shut down Detroit after Darvish exited. Relievers Alex Claudio and Sam Dyson allowed one hit apiece, and Keone Kela pitched a perfect ninth for the save.  Ian Kinsler homered for the Tigers.

White Sox 8, Mariners 1 – White Sox get strong outing from Holland in 8-1 win
Yolmer Sanchez had a two-run single in Chicago’s five-run first inning, Derek Holland pitch eight strong innings and the White Sox beat the Seattle Mariners 8-1 Sunday. Tim Anderson had three hits and two RBIs for the White Sox, including his fifth home run _ a solo shot in the third inning _ and Matt Davidson added two hits and two RBIs. Sanchez’s single in the first extended his hitting streak to 12 games, tying a career high. Holland (4-3) gave up a run and six hits while striking out six and walking two. He finished his longest outing of the season by striking out the side in the eighth inning.

Cubs 13, Brewers 6 – Bryant hits 2 HRs to back Arrieta; Cubs rout Brewers 13-6
Kris Bryant hit two home runs and Jake Arrieta tossed six strong innings to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 13-6 rout of the Milwaukee Brewers Sunday. Anthony Rizzo and Ben Zobrist also homered, and Willson Contreras went 3 for 3 with three RBIs as Chicago won for the fourth time in five games.  Bryant went 3 for 3 and was twice hit by a pitch to reach safely in all five plate appearances. It was his second multihomer game of the season and the ninth of his career. Arrieta (5-3) allowed one unearned run and five hits in six innings to snap a two-start losing streak. Travis Shaw had a two-run homer in the ninth for Milwaukee.

MLB – Cubs activate Jason Heyward from 10-day DL, recall Floro
Jason Heyward has been activated from the 10-day disabled list and started in right field for the Chicago Cubs in the finale of a two-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers. Heyward, batting .253 with three homers and 17 RBIs, had been on the DL since May 8 because of a sprained right finger.  Heyward played in a brief rehab stint with the Cubs single A affiliate in South Bend.  Chicago also recalled right-hander Dylan Floro from Iowa on Sunday and optioned infielder Tommy LaStella and right-hander Pierce Johnson to the Triple-A team.

Penguins 7, Senators 0 – Penguins strike early, rout Senators 7-0 to take 3-2 lead
The Pittsburgh Penguins have grabbed a three-games-to-two lead in the NHL’s Eastern Conference finals by blowing out the Ottawa Senators, 7-0. Bryan Rust and Scott Wilson scored 2:13 apart to give the Pens a 4-0 lead late in the first period. Rust, Sidney Crosby and Phil Kessel each had a goal and an assist for the Penguins, who chased Craig Anderson in the first period.

Celtics 111, Cavaliers 108 – Celtics stun Cavs after losing Thomas for postseason
The Boston Celtics erased a 21-point deficit in the second half and beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 111-108 on Avery Bradley’s 3-pointer with less than one second remaining. The Celtics ended the Cavaliers NBA record-tying 13-game playoff winning streak and pulled within 2-1 in the Eastern Conference finals. Bradley finished with 20 points and Marcus Smart scored 27 points while Boston held LeBron James to 11 points on 4 of 13 shooting.

NBA – Thomas out of the remainder of playoffs
Celtics All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas has been ruled out for the remainder of the postseason with a hip injury. Coach Brad Stevens said at Sunday’s shootaround that Thomas might need surgery for the hip impingement, which has bothered Thomas since March. The injury was so severe that Stevens said he was surprised Thomas was able to play Game 7 of Boston’s semifinal series against Washington.

Chicago Sky 75, Atlanta Dream 71

Sky 75, Dream 71 – Dolson helps Sky pull away late, beat Dream 75-71
Stefanie Dolson tied her career high with 23 points, on 10-of 13 shooting, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked five shots and the Chicago Sky beat the Atlanta Dream 75-71 Sunday. Cappie Pondexter added 20 points with 11 assists, and the teams split back-to-back games, each winning on its opponent’s home floor.

IIHF – Sweden beats Canada on penalties to win ice hockey worlds
Sweden won the ice hockey world championship with a 2-1 victory on penalties over two-time defending champion Canada on Sunday. Sweden goaltender Henrik Lundqvist stopped all four penalties as Nicklas Backstrom and Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored shootout goals for the Swedes to win their first title since 2013.  The game ended 1-1 after overtime.

Golf – PGA – Horschel wins in playoff
They needed to play extra golf at the AT&T Byron Nelson before Billy Horschel came away with the title.  Horschel sank a par putt on the first playoff hole after Jason Day pulled his 4-foot putt left and past the hole. Horschel fired a 1-under 69 on Sunday, including a 60-foot birdie putt on 14.     Day finished with a 68 for a 12-under total.

Golf – Champions – Langer wins to tie Nicklaus mark of 8 major senior titles
Bernhard Langer pulled away from the other contenders and captured the Regions Tradition in Birmingham to match Jack Nicklaus’ record of eight major titles on the PGA Tour Champions circuit. Langer closed with an 8-under 64 for a 20-under total. The 59-year-old German wiped out a six-stroke deficit over the weekend and entered the final round two strokes behind Fred Funk. Langer won the event by five shots over Scott McCarron and Scott Parel after winning last year’s Tradition by six strokes.

Golf – LPGA – Thompson wins with ease
Lexi Thompson completed a wire-to-wire victory in the LPGA’s Kingsmill Championship by closing with a 6-under 65. Thompson was 20 under in breaking the tournament record for best total score in relation to par, topping Annika Soranstam’s 19 under in 2008.

Indy 500 – Dixon takes 3rd Indy pole with fastest speeds in 21 years
Scott Dixon has grabbed the pole for next Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 with a four-lap average of 232.164 mph in Sunday’s qualifying. Ed Carpenter was second in qualifying, followed by defending champion Alexander Rossi, Takuma Sato and Two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso.
