State Senator John Proos is once again expecting the Michigan legislature to roundly approve a resolution calling on the federal government to do more to ensure the Asian carp doesn’t get into the Great Lakes. He tells WSJM News a resolution he’s sponsored asking for just that has been approved by a Senate committee.

“This calls upon the federal government and the Army Corps of Engineers to institute any and all measures to make sure that the locks system itself keeps the Asian carp from making it to the Great Lakes,” Proos said. “We know that they continue to make their up up the Chicago River water system, and that only puts them closer and closer to the Great Lakes.”

Proos has sponsored such a resolution each year he’s been in the state Senate. It will be sent on to the president, the Army Corps of Engineers, and Michigan’s congressional delegation.
