NCAAMBB – Kansas moves to No. 1 in AP poll, Villanova 2nd
Kansas is the new No. 1 in The Associated Press college basketball poll. The Jayhawks (26-3) moved up two places to the top spot, receiving 58 first-place votes Monday from the 65-member national media panel. Kansas is the sixth school to be No. 1 this season. The Jayhawks were on top last season for five weeks, including the final three polls of the season. Villanova (27-3) remained second despite losing to Butler last week. The Wildcats were No. 1 on two ballots. UCLA (26-3), which was No. 1 on three ballots, moved up from fifth to third after its win over Arizona on Saturday. Gonzaga (29-1) fell to fourth after losing its first game of the season, an upset by BYU on Saturday. The Zags, who had been No. 1 for the last four polls, received two first-place votes. North Carolina moved from eighth to fifth and was followed by Oregon, Arizona, Louisville, Kentucky and West Virginia.

NCAAWBB – UConn still No. 1 in AP women’s poll
UConn remains the No. 1 team in The Associated Press women’s basketball poll while the rest of the top five were shuffled Monday. The Huskies improved their winning streak to 103 games, cruising to wins over Temple and Memphis. Baylor, Notre Dame, Maryland and South Carolina follow UConn. The Terrapins dropped two spots after losing to then-No. 12 Ohio State last week. The Buckeyes moved up to ninth. Mississippi State fell to sixth after losing in overtime to Kentucky and getting routed by Tennessee. Oregon State climbed four spots to move into a tie for sixth. Florida State and Stanford round out the first 10 teams in the poll. Kansas State re-entered the poll at No. 24 while Michigan dropped out.

Pacers 117, Rockets 108 – Teague has 25 to lift Pacers over Rockets, 117-108
Jeff Teague scored 25 points and the Indiana Pacers overcame a huge first-half deficit and withstood a late rally by Houston to beat the Rockets 117-108 on Monday night. C.J. Miles made a 3-pointer with 40.8 seconds left to make it 113-108, and Teague made a pair of free throws after that to put the game out of reach. It was just the second win in nine games for the Pacers and only their 10th road win of the season.  The Pacers rallied from 17 down in the first half and were up by 14 with about four minutes left. The Rockets then used a 12-2 run to get within two with less than a minute remaining. Lou Williams was fouled while making an off-balance 3 to cap the run, but missed the ensuing free throw. Miles followed with his 3. Williams had 28 points to lead the Rockets. James Harden added 25 points with 12 assists and Nene added 15 points for Houston.

NHL – Red Wings sign defenseman Nick Jensen to 2-year $1.625M deal
The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenseman Nick Jensen to a two-year deal, counting $812,500 against the salary cap each season. Jensen has three goals and eight points in 27 games this season. Detroit drafted the Minnesota native in the fifth round of the 2009 draft. The former St. Cloud State standout made his NHL debut in December. The Red Wings announced the deal with the 26-year-old Jensen on Monday, a day before starting a five-game road trip in Vancouver. Detroit is tied with the Carolina Hurricanes for last place in the Eastern Conference, making it likely the franchise will not earn a spot in the playoffs for the first time since 1990.

NHL – Capitals acquire defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk from Blues
The Washington Capitals have acquired defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk in a trade with the St. Louis Blues. Washington sent a 2017 first-round pick, conditional 2018 second-round pick, forward Zach Sanford and minor leaguer Brad Malone to St. Louis in the deal that also sent former Capitals goaltending prospect Pheonix Copley to the Blues.  The teams announced the deal Monday night. Shattenkirk, 28, is set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer. He has 42 points on 11 goals and 31 assists this season and has 66 goals and 218 assists in 471 NHL games.  He counts $4.25 million against the salary cap this season. The Blues retained 39 percent of his salary. Shattenkirk is a right-handed-shooting defenseman who adds more depth and offense to the Capitals’ blue line.

MLB – Cubs hope to meet with city to plan 2020 All-Star bid
The Chicago Cubs hope to meet with city officials in the next few months to plan a bid for the 2020 All-Star game. During a luncheon on Monday, Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts reiterated the team’s desire to host the game at Wrigley Field. He says he’s not sure exactly when discussions with the city will happen. Mayor Rahm Emanuel helped bring the NFL draft to Chicago in 2015 and 2016 after decades in New York. The Cubs beat Cleveland for their first championship since 1908 last fall in a World Series that drew as a whole its highest rating since 2004. An All-Star game in 2020 would be a huge showcase after a $600 million transformation to baseball’s second-oldest ballpark and its surroundings.
