Entergy is hoping to show southwest Michigan it still cares about the community, even though the Palisades plant is shutting down. The company had volunteers on site this week for the ribbon cutting on a Habitat for Humanity home the plant supported, says spokesperson Val Gent.
“We donated $95,000 to provide a local family with a safe, healthy place to live,” Gent told WSJM News. “It was actually for a man named Russell Hiat. He’s an Army veteran, and now he’s going to have a three bedroom home in South Haven to share with his wife, Mary, and his 3-year-old daughter, Ariel.”
Gent says it was great to see the family enjoy their new Christmas gift. She adds Palisades will continue working in the community. Still this holiday season, volunteers will give gifts to seniors and delivering Christmas cards to veterans.
