Teaching kids about drugs, alcohol and sex at school is less controversial than in the past, according to a national poll on children’s health. 70% of parents with kids in middle and high school support covering these subjects. Researcher Sarah Clark says there are a few reasons.

“I think the reason is that maybe parents aren’t so sure of their own knowledge in this, and it is a question of, ‘Well, if the schools don’t teach it and I’m not sure of it myself, where is my kid going to learn this?’”

Clark says the poll found parents would also like to see other topics taught in school, like basic first aid and CPR. They also want their kids to be taught about depression, stress, and bullying.
