Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey and sheriff’s department chaplain Brian Hall were among the guests on hand for Thursday’s September 11 memorial ceremony at the state House in Lansing. State Representative Al Pscholka tells WSJM News the names of fallen first responders from the last year were read.

“We honored our military members and first responders that we lost in 2016,” Pscholka said. “There were 15 names read. Representative [Dave] Pagel and I presented the names of Joe Zangaro and Ronald Kienzle.”

Zangaro and Kienzel were court security officers killed in shootings at the Berrien County Courthouse in July. Also Thursday, Pscholka tells us the House Appropriations Committee approved legislation offering health benefits to the families of fallen first responders.
