The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says it has confirmed eight human cases of swine flu this year. They have been in Cass, Muskegon, and Ingham Counties. Department spokesperson Jennifer Eisner says the patients had H3N2 flu.

“What this means is that eight humans have been infected with influenza due to exposure to sick pigs,” Eisner said.

A total of nine H3N2 cases were reported in Michigan between 2012 and 2015. So far this year, one person was hospitalized for the illness. The spread of swine flu is what prompted officials with the Berrien County Youth Fair to limit access to the pig barn this week.
