Twins 6, Tigers 1 – Milone goes 8 1/3 innings; Twins beat Detroit 6-2
Tommy Milone held Detroit scoreless until the ninth inning, and Minnesota broke through with five runs in the seventh to beat the Tigers 6-2 last night.  Brian Dozier hit a two-run homer and Eduardo Nunez had three RBIs.  Milone (3-2) went 8 and 1/3 innings in the win. Down 6-0 at the start of the inning, Detroit scored twice and loaded the bases with one out. Brandon Kintzler struck out James McCann and Jose Iglesias to end it. Anibal Sanchez (5-11) struck out 10 in six-plus innings.

White Sox 6, Mariner 1 – Cabrera, Frazier homer as White Sox beat Mariners 6-1
Melky Cabrera hit a tie-breaking homer leading off the seventh inning, Todd Frazier added a two-run shot in the ninth and the Chicago White Sox snapped a five-game losing streak with a 6-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night. Cabrera lined his ninth home run off Seattle starter Wade Miley (6-7) to snap a 1-1 tie. J.B. Shuck added an RBI single later in the inning and Frazier capped the White Sox’s first win since July 9 with his 27th home run in the ninth. Brett Lawrie also hit a solo home run, his 12th.  Chicago starter Jose Quintana (8-8) threw six innings and his only major mistake was Robinson Cano’s 22nd home run in the fourth inning. Miley lost his fifth straight start, his last win coming on June 7.

Mets 2, Cubs 1 – Familia escapes jam in 9th, Mets beat Cubs 2-1
Jeurys Familia escaped a bases-loaded jam with a game-ending double play after Rene Rivera drove in the tiebreaking run with two outs in the top of the ninth, lifting the New York Mets over the Chicago Cubs 2-1 on Tuesday night. Familia walked Addison Russell and Miguel Montero to start the ninth, then Javier Baez reached on a bunt single when third baseman Jose Reyes threw wide to first. Pinch-hitter Matt Szczur hit a grounder to first baseman James Loney, and Loney threw out Russell at the plate. Kris Bryant then hit into a 5-4-3 double play to give Familia his 33rd save in 33 chances. Rivera had the third single in the ninth _ following hits by Loney and Asdrubal Cabrera _ off Hector Rondon (1-2) as the Mets beat the Cubs for the fifth time in six games after sweeping them in last year’s NL Championship Series. Hansel Robles (4-3) pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the win.

MLB – No timetable for Norris
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus remains noncommittal about a timetable for left-hander Daniel Norris’ return from a right oblique strain. Norris made a rehab start on Monday night but the team may be in no rush to bring him back after Sanchez had a solid outing last night.

NBA – Pistons sign first-round draft pick Ellenson
The Detroit Pistons have signed first-round draft pick Henry Ellenson. The team announced the multiyear deal on Tuesday without providing specific terms. Ellenson was taken with the No. 18 pick in last month’s NBA draft. Ellenson averaged 17 points and 9.7 rebounds per game last season as a freshman at Marquette. He also led the team with 49 blocked shots. The 6-foot-11 Ellenson set school records for scoring and rebounding for a freshman.

Golf – PGA – No PGA Championship for Woods
For the first time in his career Tiger Woods will miss all four majors in one season. The PGA Championship has announced that the winner of 14 majors will not be able to take part in this month’s event in New Jersey. He will be replaced in the field by Harold Varner III.  Woods is rehabbing from back surgery and hasn’t played since last August.

Sky 79, Mercury 77 – Breland hits winner, Sky win 2nd straight in final seconds.
Jessica Breland’s putback with 0.2 seconds left gave the Chicago Sky a 79-77 win over the Mercury in Phoenix last night. Elena Delle Donne scored 18 points and 9 rebounds in the victory.

Fever 92, Sparks 82 – Tamika Catchings, Fever hand Sparks 2nd straight loss
Tamika Catchings had 23 points and four steals to help the Indiana Fever hand the Los Angeles Sparks their first two-game losing streak of the season in a 92-82 victory Tuesday night.

AP source: ACC, ESPN to launch ACC Network in 2019
You can reportedly add the Atlantic Coast Conference to the list of major athletic conferences that will have a TV channel. A person familiar with the plans tells The Associated Press that it will launch in August 2019. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the network has not been formally announced by ESPN or the ACC.

NCAA Football – Big Ten – Ohio State cuts running back
The most experienced running back on the Ohio State football team has been kicked off the squad. Coach Urban Meyer said in a statement that fifth-year senior Bri’onte Dunn has been dismissed for violating team rules. The statement didn’t specify what Dunn is accused of doing. The 23-year-old was expected to compete for the starting running back position vacated by Ezekiel Elliott, who was taken as the fourth overall pick in the NFL draft by the Dallas Cowboys.

NCAA – Big 12 to consider expansion
The Big 12 presidents have directed Commissioner Bob Bowlsby to evaluate schools that are interested in joining the conference.  The presidents stopped just short of announcing the conference was committed to expansion. Oklahoma President David Boren says the conference is still considering whether to add two or four teams to its 10 members.

NCAA Basketball – Top-seed can chose playing site
The NCAA says the top overall seed in the men’s NCAA Tournament will be able to pick its location for the first and second round and regional sites. The NCAA feels that site selection adds an incentive for top teams to push for the No. 1 overall seed. Teams will be able to choose from eight assigned cities for the first and second round.

Olympics – Russians athletes status up in the air for Rio Games
The International Olympic Committee says it plans on retesting Russian athletes after that scathing report released yesterday saying there has been a state-wide cover-up in Russia of doping. The governing body of the Olympics also says it is going to explore its legal options regarding a total ban of the Russian team from this summer’s Olympics in Brazil.

Cycling – Tour de France – Resting
Today was a day of rest at the Tour de France. There are two days of rest in the annual event and this is the second this year. When competition resumes tomorrow the yellow jersey, symbolic of being the leader, will be worn by Britain’s Chris Froome.
