$1.1 million has been generated for Berrien County as a result of the latest land auction. County Treasurer Bret Witkowski says the event held at the DANK Tuesday was the biggest yet.
“This was, by far, the biggest auction,” Witkowski told WSJM. “The most money generated, and the most people in the door. We estimate 285 people in the door.”
Witkowski says 94 foreclosed properties were sold out of 409 available. Many of them are around Benton Harbor and Benton Township, but not all. The money raised goes into the county’s delinquent taxes fund, which pays the county back for taxes owed. The rest goes into the foreclosure fund, which pays for demolitions.
