A special honor for state Senator John Proos from the Michigan Association of Treatment Court Professionals was announced this week. The group has named him its Legislator of the Year for his efforts to promote treatment courts for some non-violent offenders. Proos says he appreciates the individuals who make the programs work.
“We’re blessed to have them doing what they’re doing, and I’m glad that, in the public policy arena, in the legislature, I’m able to try new and innovative ways to try to give them the tools,” Proos said.
The Michigan Association of Treatment Court Professionals points to Proos’ efforts on reforms for restorative justice like the consent calendar for juveniles, Swift and Sure programming, and treatment courts. Proos says he’s proud to be a part of reforming Michigan’s criminal justice system.
