MLB – Major League Baseball
Last Night
Detroit Tigers 12, Cleveland Indians 2
Chicago White Sox 5, New York Yankees 0
Cincinnati Reds 5, Chicago Cubs 3

Tigers 12, Indians 2 – Castellanos’ 5 RBIs lead Tigers over Indians 12-2
Nick Castellanos had three hits, including a three-run homer, and tied his career high with five RBIs Wednesday to lead Detroit over Cleveland 12-2 Wednesday and stop the Indians’ home winning streak at 13. Cameron Maybin hit a two-run homer and Ian Kinsler had three singles for the Tigers, who overcame a 2-0, fourth-inning deficit and beat the Indians for the first time in 12 meetings this year. Rookie Michael Fulmer (9-2) allowed two runs _ one earned _ and five hits in six innings, improving to 7-1 with a 0.63 ERA in his last nine starts. Josh Tomlin (9-2) retired his first nine batters, then gave up hits to four of his next five and lost for the first time since May 30. He allowed eight runs, tying his big league high, and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.  Three of the runs were unearned because of an error by All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor, who allowed Victor Martinez’s two-out grounder to bounce off his glove on a short hop. Castellanos homered over the 400-foot sign in center on the next pitch for an 8-2 lead, chasing Tomlin.

White Sox 5, Yankees 0 – Gonzalez goes 7 innings, White Sox shut out Yankees 5-0
Miguel Gonzalez pitched five-hit ball over seven innings and the Chicago White Sox beat the New York Yankees 5-0 Wednesday night. One night after getting blanked for the fifth time, the White Sox returned the favor and handed the Yankees their fifth shutout. Gonzalez (2-4) matched his longest outing of the season and shut down New York after it pounded out a season-high 20 hits in Tuesday’s 9-0 romp.  Tim Anderson capped a four-run second with a two-run double off Michael Pineda (3-8), and the White Sox won for the sixth time in eight games. They took two of three from New York to capture their fifth straight series, another twist for a team that got off to a 23-10 start and then went into a huge tailspin.

Reds 5, Cubs 3 – Barnhart’s 3-run HR lifts Reds over struggling Cubs 5-3
Tucker Barnhart hit a go-ahead, three-run homer off Trevor Cahill in the seventh inning, and the Cincinnati Reds beat Chicago 5-3 Wednesday in the Cubs’ 12th loss in 17 games. A day after having seven players selected for next week’s All-Star Game, the Cubs lost to the last-place Reds for the second time in three days and dropped below Texas for the best record in the major leagues. Cincinnati is 3-10 against the Cubs this year. Zack Cozart homered for the third straight game, starting Cincinnati’s offense with his eighth career leadoff homer. Chicago led 3-1 when Brandon Phillips and Jose Peraza hit consecutive one-out singles against Cahill (1-3) and Barnhart sent a 2-2 sinker into the basket in center field for his third home run this year. The Reds’ lone All-Star, Adam Duvall, walked and scored on Carl Edwards Jr.’s wild pitch in the eighth.

NBA – Dwyane Wade leaving Heat for Bulls
The Miami Heat can say goodbye to Dwyane Wade. The 12-time NBA All-Star guard has ended his 13-year run with the team for a two-year, $47 million contract with the Bulls. Miami offered $40 million over two years for Wade to stay in the uniform that he’s worn his entire career.  The Chicago native has averaged 23.7 points and 5.8 assists since being taken with the fifth overall pick in the 2003 draft. Wade scored 19 points a game while appearing in 74 games for the Heat last season.  Meanwhile, a person familiar with the trade says the Bulls have sent Mike Dunleavy to the Cleveland Cavaliers to help make room for the incoming Wade. The 35-year-old Dunleavy averaged a career-low 7.2 points in 31 games for the Bulls last season.  Chicago made further cap room by shipping guard Jose Calderon and two second-round draft picks to the Lakers.

NHL – Red Wings sign goaltender Jared Coreau to 2-year contract
The Detroit Red Wings have signed goaltender Jared Coreau to a two-year contract.  The team announced the move Wednesday, a day after Coreau and Detroit defenseman Danny DeKeyser were among 24 players to elect salary arbitration.  Coreau gives the Red Wings depth in net, where restricted free agent Petr Mrazek has emerged as a starter and Jimmy Howard has become expendable as a backup with three years left on his $31.8 million, six-year contract. Detroit general manager Ken Holland is working on re-signing Mrazek to a multiyear contract.  The 24-year-old Coreau played for the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League the past two years. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound goalie was among AHL leaders with 29 wins and a 2.43 goals-against average.

NFL – District Attorney: Ex-NFL player shot by homeowner justified
Officials say the shooting of a former Detroit Lions cornerback at a multimillion-dollar home in Portland, Oregon, was justified. The Oregonian/OregonLive reports the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday a grand jury found homeowner Robert McCall’s use of force was justified. Stanley Wilson the Second has been arraigned on burglary and trespassing charges and says he’s happy to be alive. He posted bail and his next court appearance was set for July 15th.

Tenth seed Tomas Berdych knocked out Lucas Pouille in straight sets, and sixth seed Milos Raonic ended Sam Querrey’s unexpected run by beating the American 6-4, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.
