High marks were given this week to several Southwest Michigan agencies for their participation in recent emergency training exercises involving the Palisades nuclear power plant. Last week, county and state offices affected by the Covert Township facility took part in numerous demonstrations over three days to test their readiness for responding to a disaster...and at a Friday briefing, FEMA officials said that all objectives required in the training had been met by every participant in Van Buren County. FEMA had similar statements about Berrien County agencies, as well. Van Buren Sheriff Dale Gribler says that he's proud of the efforts everyone put into the Palisades exercise period, noting that hours of training are needed to get things right.
