Tigers 7, Rangers 4 – Tigers beat Rangers 7-4
Victor Martinez and Jeimer Candelario homered in the first inning and the Detroit Tigers held off the Texas Rangers 7-4 Tuesday night,  Jose Iglesias connected on a two-run shot , his first of the season, for a 5-0 lead in the second against left-hander Mike Minor. Mike Fiers (3-2), winless with an 8.90 ERA in six previous appearances against Texas, took a shutout into the fifth before Jurickson Profar’s leadoff homer , his second. The right-hander gave up six hits and two runs with five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Shane Greene struck out the side after a leadoff single in the ninth for his first four-out save of the season and seventh overall in nine chances.

Pirates 10, White Sox 6 – Moran gets key hit as Pirates rally past White Sox 10-6
Colin Moran hit a key two-run double, Jordy Mercer also had two RBIs and the Pittsburgh Pirates cleaned up in interleague play once again, beating the lowly Chicago White Sox 10-6 on Tuesday night. Corey Dickerson had four of Pittsburgh’s 16 hits and also drove in two runs, atoning for an early fielding miscue and helping the Pirates improve to 3-5 on a nine-game trip. Starling Marte finished with three hits.  Welington Castillo homered twice for the last-place White Sox, who have lost four straight and eight of nine. Yolmer Sanchez had three hits and scored twice.

Cubs 4, Marlins 3 – Bryant scores go-ahead run in 8th, Cubs beat Marlins 4-3
Kris Bryant slid home safely with the go-ahead run on Victor Caratini’s grounder to the right side in the eighth inning, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Miami Marlins 4-3 on Tuesday night. Caratini wound up with the winning RBI, a few innings after the Cubs catcher got into a heated situation at home plate with Miami’s Derek Dietrich. Bryant drew a leadoff walk from Kyle Barraclough (0-2) in the eighth, took second on a wild pitch and moved to third on Anthony Rizzo’s grounder. With the infield playing in, Caratini hit a grounder to second baseman Starlin Castro, who took his time and threw a bit wide and high to the plate, allowing Bryant to easily score. Bryant scored the tying run in the sixth when he got hit by a pitch from Jose Urena and came home when Caratini grounded out

MLB – Farquhar visits with White Sox at ballpark
The White Sox say reliever Danny Farquhar seemed like his usual joking self when he visited the team at Guaranteed Rate Field for the first time since he collapsed in the dugout with a brain hemorrhage during a game in Chicago last month. The 31-year-old Farquhar spent about an hour at the ballpark on Tuesday before Chicago hosted Pittsburgh. Fellow pitcher Miguel Gonzalez says Farquhar was “pretty pumped” and reliever Nate Jones says the visit “was exciting for everybody.” Farquhar’s brain hemorrhage was caused by a ruptured aneurysm on April 20 after he pitched against Houston. He was released from the hospital on Monday. Farquhar, a married father of three children, has been ruled out for the rest of the season, but neurosurgeon Dr. Demetrius Lopes thinks he will be able to play again at some point.

MLB – Mets trade former ace Matt Harvey to Reds C Devin Mesoraco
The New York Mets have traded former ace Matt Harvey to the Cincinnati Reds for catcher Devin Mesoraco in a swap of former All-Stars with careers sidetracked by injuries. The deal was announced less than an hour before the first pitch of Tuesday night’s game between the Mets and Reds at Great American Ball Park. New York designated the 29-year-old Harvey for assignment last Saturday, giving it seven days to trade or release him. The Reds decided to take a chance on Harvey, who lost his spot in the Mets’ rotation after four starts and was hit hard in four relief appearances. Mesoraco’s career has been sidelined by injuries the last three seasons. He’s batting .220 in 18 games with one homer and three RBIs.

Plans move forward on $30M development at Tiger Stadium site
Plans are moving forward for a $30 million mixed-use development at part of the site of the former Tiger Stadium in Detroit. Construction was kicking off Tuesday on the development called “The Corner,” which will include 111 apartments as well as retail space. Larson Realty Group is the developer on the project, which is expected to take about a year to complete. Earlier this year, The Corner Ballpark opened at the same site as the headquarters for the nonprofit Detroit Police Athletic League. It’s adjacent to the Willie Horton Field of Dreams, named after a former hometown fan favorite. Tiger Stadium opened in 1912 as Navin Field. The Detroit Tigers moved to Comerica Park after the 1999 season. The last portion of the old ballpark was demolished in 2009.

NFL – 2 former employees file discrimination suit against Lions
Two former Detroit Lions employees have filed suit against the team, claiming they were fired because of racial and age discrimination. The Detroit Free Press reports Tuesday that the former employees say they experienced disparaging comments because of their race. Robert Yanagi and Michael Richardson filed a lawsuit in Wayne County Circuit Court last month, seeking damages of over $25,000. Yanagi, 58, is of Japanese descent. He was the team’s director of video operations. Richardson, a 52-year-old African-American, was an assistant video director. The Lions said because the report involved ongoing litigation, it would be inappropriate for them to comment. The suit also names the NFL as a defendant. According to the suit, Richardson complained to the Lions’ human resources department last December about being subjected to racist comments by an employee in the team’s scouting department, as well as “disparate treatment” by an employee of the operations department.

NASCAR – AP source: NASCAR memo says France family is `dedicated’ to the sport
NASCAR President Brent Dewar has told employees the France family “remains dedicated to the long term growth of our sport.” The memo was sent to employees on Tuesday, one day after a media report said the France family was exploring the sale of its stake in the nation’s top auto racing series. The Associated Press received a copy of the memo from a person who shared it on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the topic. Dewar wrote in the memo that NASCAR does not comment on “industry rumors” but did not specifically address a possible deal by the France family, which holds the majority of NASCAR stock. NASCAR has struggled with recent ratings and attendance declines and several big-name sponsors have scaled back or pulled out.
