The Berrien Community Foundation is taking applications for this year’s scholarships. Foundation President Lisa Cripps Downey tells us there are four new ones this year, with the BCF administering a total of more than 30. A new one this year is the Southwest Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force Scholarship.

“They’re looking for a student who plans to attend Southwestern Michigan College and major in health or criminal justice, and they have done something, either in a volunteer project or research, taken some interest in human trafficking,” Cripps-Downey said.

Cripps-Downey says the other new ones are the Rodney Weir Scholarship for Coloma Marching Band students, the Trefz Family Scholarship for anyone in need, and the Frederick S. Upton Foundation Opportunity Scholarship, also based on financial need. Anyone interested in applying can go to the Berrien Community Foundation’s website. The deadline is March 5, but Cripps-Downey says applicants need to get started now. you can find a list of all the BCF-administered scholarships right here.
