MLB – Major League Baseball – 2017 League Championship Series (Best of 7)
Yesterday
New York Yankees 8, Houston Astros 1                                                  (HOU leads 2-1)

Yankees 8, Astros 1 – Judge, Sabathia help Yankees beat Astros 8-1, trail ALCS 2-1
Aaron Judge hit a three-run homer and a made pair of sparkling catches, leading CC Sabathia and the Yankees over the Houston Astros 8-1 Monday night and cutting New York’s deficit to 2-1 in the best-of-seven AL Championship Series. Sabathia allowed three hits over six scoreless innings for his first postseason win in five years. Todd Frazier hit a go-ahead, three-run homer for the Yankees, who stopped a seven-game ALCS losing streak dating to Sabathia’s victory over Texas in 2010. Sonny Gray starts Game 4 Wednesday on 11 days’ rest, likely against Brad Peacock or Lance McCullers Jr. Back in the Bronx after a pair of 2-1 losses in Houston, the Yankees led 8-0 after four innings. Houston scored on a bases-loaded walk in the ninth before postseason star Jose Altuve grounded into a game-ending double play with the bases loaded.

Tonight
Astros (McCullers 7-4) at Yankees (Gray 10-12), 5:08 p.m.                    (HOU leads 2-1)
Dodgers (Darvish 10-12) at Cubs (Hendricks (7-5), 9:08 p.m.                (LAD leads 2-0)

NFL – National Football League – Week 6
Last Night
Tennessee Titans 36, Indianapolis Colts 22

Titans 36, Colts 22 – Titans end 11-game skid to Colts with 36-22 win
The Tennessee Titans finally have a victory over the Indianapolis Colts. The Titans scored two touchdowns over the final 5:29 to get a 36-22 win against their AFC South rival. Marcus Mariota hit Taywan Taylor for a 53-yard TD to break a 22-all tie and end Tennessee’s 11-game losing streak to Indianapolis. Mariota was 23 of 32 for 306 yards, one touchdown and one interception for the 3-3 Titans. He also carried twice for no yards as he refrained from running to protect his injured hamstring.  Derrick Henry clinched the win for Tennessee with a 72-yard TD run in the final minute. The 2015 Heisman Trophy winner finished with a career-high 131 yards on 19 carries.  Ryan Succop hit five field goals for Tennessee.  Jacoby Brissett threw for 212 yards and one TD for the Colts.

NFL – Rodgers will have surgery
Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy says quarterback Aaron Rodgers will have surgery on his broken right collarbone, and that his season could be over. Rodgers got hurt in the first quarter of Sunday’s 23-10 loss at Minnesota. Brett Hundley is now the starting quarterback, with Joe Callahan promoted from the practice squad to serve as the backup.

NFL – Elliott hearing scheduled
Ezekiel Elliott’s legal team is ready to resume its fight to overturn his six-game suspension over domestic violence allegations. A person with direct knowledge of the situation says attorneys for Dallas Cowboys running back are set for an emergency hearing in federal court in New York. The person says the lawyers have filed a request for a temporary restraining order and will get a hearing Tuesday in the Southern District of New York.

NHL – National Hockey League
Last Night
Tampa Bay Lightning 3, Detroit Red Wings 2

Lightning 3, Red Wings 2 – Kucherov scores twice, Lightning beat Red Wings 3-2
Nikita Kucherov scored his second goal of the game with 18:13 remaining in the third period, lifting the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night. Tyler Johnson also scored for the Lightning, who now have the NHL’s top record after winning their fourth game in a row. Justin Abdelkader and Mike Green scored in the second period to help Detroit erase a 2-0 deficit, but Kucherov broke the tie early in the third with his seventh goal of the season.  Jimmy Howard made 23 saves and suffered his first loss of the season.

NBA – National Basketball Association – Season Opener
Yesterday
Boston at Cleveland, 8 p.m.
Houston at Golden State, 10:30 p.m.

NBA – LeBron’s status for season opener vs. Celtics still unclear
LeBron James’ playing status for Tuesday’s season opener against Boston remains unclear.  James has been slowed by a sprained left ankle for more than two weeks and it’s still not known whether he’ll be on the floor when the Cavaliers take on the Celtics and Kyrie Irving, who asked to be traded by Cleveland this summer. James took part in some post-practice shooting drills with teammates Monday. He didn’t speak with the media as the Cavaliers prepared for their opener, a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference finals. James has never missed an opener in his NBA career, and teammate J.R. Smith doesn’t expect him to miss this one.

NCAA Basketball – Louisville fires Rick Pitino amid federal investigation
Louisville’s Athletic Association has officially fired coach Rick Pitino nearly three weeks after the school acknowledged that its men’s basketball program is being investigated as part of a federal corruption probe. The move officially ends Pitino’s 16-year tenure with the program, a run that included winning the 2013 NCAA championship but was tarnished by several embarrassing off-court incidents. The association on Oct. 2 authorized university interim President Greg Postel to begin the process of firing Pitino for cause after Postel placed him on unpaid administrative leave Sept. 27. Pitino isn’t named in court complaints in the federal probe, but Postel said in a disciplinary letter that the allegations violated his contract.

NCAA Basketball – Bribery investigations spark internal reviews at NCAA schools
An AP survey finds that more than two dozen universities and conferences with major basketball programs responded to news of the sport’s bribery scandal by conducting internal reviews of their compliance operations. The arrests and details of a federal probe have triggered uncomfortable soul-searching across the sport.

Golf – Woods’ agent says golfer can participate in full practices again
Tiger Woods apparently is a step closer to returning to competition. His agent says the former world No. 1 golfer has been cleared by doctors to practice without limitations. Mark Steinberg says Woods received a good report from doctors who performed fusion surgery on his lower back in April. Steinberg says Woods plans to take it cautiously and added they haven’t discussed playing tournaments. Woods has not played since withdrawing from the Dubai Desert Classic on Feb. 3 because of back spasms. He had his fourth back surgery two months later.

Olympics – Salt Lake City forms committee to weigh Olympics bid
Salt Lake City is forming an exploratory committee to decide if the city will bid to host another Winter Olympics in either 2026 or 2030.  The group said Monday that it will decide by Feb. 1. The city hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics.  The bidding process for the 2026 Winter Olympics starts next year with hosting rights to be awarded in July 2019. Denver and Reno, Nevada, may also have interest.  The Salt Lake City Games were marred by a bidding scandal that resulted in several International Olympic Committee members losing their positions for taking bribes. But with the help of Mitt Romney and others, the Olympics were saved and Salt Lake and Park City have stood as prime examples of the sort of legacy that modern Olympics are supposed to leave in a region.

NASCAR – NASCAR’s most popular driver expecting a baby girl
Dale Earnhardt Jr. is going to be rather busy in retirement. NASCAR’s most popular driver announced Monday his wife is expecting the couple’s first child.  Earnhardt posted a picture of pink pair of baby girl Converse on Instagram to announce he and wife Amy are having a daughter. He did not reveal a due date.  Earnhardt has five races left before he retires from his final full-time season in NASCAR. He has already accepted a job with the NBC Sports broadcast team for next season.  Earnhardt was married on Dec. 31 after he recovered from concussion symptoms.
