Michigan 68, Rutgers 64 – Michigan beats Rutgers 68-64 behind Wilson’s double-double
D.J. Wilson scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, three other Wolverines scored in double figures, and Michigan beat Rutgers 68-64 on Wednesday. Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman scored 14 points, Derrick Walton Jr. had 13 and Zak Irvin added 16 for Michigan (18-10, 8-7 Big Ten), which made 10 of 31 from behind the arc to Rutgers’ 6 of 16. Corey Sanders scored 15 and Mike Williams had 14 for Rutgers (13-16, 2-14), which outscored Michigan 32-22 in the paint. Down by as many as 10 in the second half, Rutgers took its first lead since 4-3 after C.J. Gettys’ jumper gave the Scarlet Knights a 52-51 lead at 7:58. But Wilson’s 3 with 5:50 to go put Michigan back on top 57-56 and the Wolverines never looked back. The Wolverines outrebounded the Scarlet Knights 40-33, but Rutgers scored 15 points off 11 Michigan turnovers.

MLB – Big change to intentional walks
In an attempt to speed up the game, baseball has eliminated the four-pitch intentional walk. Now when a team wants to walk a player, all the manager will have to do is signal the intent to the umpire. The player will then get first base. The players’ association approved the move, which was proposed by Major League Baseball. Agreement with the union is required for changes in playing rules unless MLB gives notice one year in advance, in which case it can unilaterally make alterations. There were 932 intentional walks last year, including 600 in the National League, where batters are walked to bring the pitcher’s slot to the plate.

Gymnastics – Attorney general calls sports doctor `monster’
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette says a sports doctor accused of sexually assaulting nine young gymnasts is a “monster.” Schuette spoke to reporters Wednesday after filing 22 charges against Dr. Larry Nassar, a former doctor at Michigan State University and at USA Gymnastics. Schuette replied “absolutely” when asked if more charges are coming. Nassar’s lawyer declined to comment. Schuette says the victims were girls or teens who were molested at Nassar’s home, his Michigan State clinic or a gymnastics club in Eaton County. Campus Police Chief James Dunlap says his department has received more than 80 complaints about Nassar. Separately, dozens of women and girls are suing Nassar, Michigan State and USA Gymnastics. They include 2000 Olympian Jamie Dantzscher, who says she was assaulted.

NCAAFB – Harbaugh adds Lempa as defensive analyst on Michigan staff
Jim Harbaugh has added Kevin Lempa as a senior defensive analyst on his Michigan football staff.  Lempa said Wednesday he is fired up to work with Wolverines defensive coordinator Don Brown again. He coached defensive backs at Boston College from 2013 to 2015 while Brown was the Eagles’ defensive coordinator. Lempa was Hawaii’s defensive coordinator last year, for the second time in his coaching career, and has been a defensive coordinator at Columbia and Central Connecticut State.

NCAAFB – Mississippi self-imposes 1-year football postseason ban
Mississippi has self-imposed a one-year postseason football ban for 2017 after officials say the school received an amended Notice of Allegations from the NCAA that alleges more rules violations by the program. The school did not release the NOA, but discussed its contents in a 21-minute video posted on YouTube on Wednesday afternoon.

Olympics – Budapest to withdraw bid to host 2024 Summer Olympics
Budapest will withdraw its bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics, leaving only Los Angeles and Paris in the race.  Hungarian government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs confirmed the withdrawal to The Associated Press on Wednesday. The joint decision by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Budapest Mayor Istvan Tarlos and the Hungarian Olympic Committee will be formally voted on by the Budapest City Assembly. Fidesz, the governing party, said the decision was made to avoid “a loss of international prestige” for Hungary, saying the bid had a very small chance of success. The bid was expected to face a city-wide referendum promoted by a new political party, which gathered more than 266,000 signatures in favor of holding the vote.  The International Olympic Committee will choose the host city in September.
