Capitals 6, Red Wings 3 – Oshie’s 2 goals, assist for Carlson lift Caps past Wings 6-3
T.J. Oshie scored twice and set up John Carlson’s go-ahead goal in the third period for the NHL-leading Washington Capitals, who collected their 11th consecutive home victory by beating the Detroit Red Wings 6-3 Thursday night. Detroit’s Henrik Zetterberg made it 3-all less than 1 1/2 minutes into the final period. But Oshie stole the puck deep in the offensive end, skated out front and slid the puck over to Carlson, whose slap shot sailed past goalie Petr Mrazek at the 4:15 mark. Oshie’s 21st goal had put Washington ahead 3-2 just 76 seconds into the second period, and his 22nd added insurance on a power play with a little more than 5 ½ minutes remaining in the game. Andreas Athanasiou had two goals in the first period for the Red Wings.

NBA – Bucks Parker done for season
Milwaukee’s Jabari Parker has suffered a season-ending left ACL injury for the second time in three years and will require surgery. He was hurt in the Bucks’ loss to Miami on Wednesday. The Bucks say the recovery and rehabilitation period will take about a year. Parker is averaging a career-high 20.1 points and 6.2 rebounds.

NFL – Raiders still committed to Vegas stadium
The president of the Oakland Raiders says financing for the proposed Las Vegas stadium will not be an issue despite the withdrawal of an instrumental backer. Marc Badain made that known Thursday to the board that oversees the proposed project, less than two weeks after casino magnate Sheldon Adelson pulled his $650 million pledge toward the $1.9 billion stadium. The Raiders would be responsible for $500 million, with the stadium authority putting up $750 million in Las Vegas tax revenues.
MLB – AP Source: Loria has buyer for Marlins
The Miami Marlins could be changing hands soon. A person with direct knowledge of the negotiations tells The Associated Press that owner Jeffrey Loria has a preliminary agreement to sell the team to a New York businessman. However, the person adds that the deal could fall through because the final purchase price hasn’t been determined. According to the source, the preliminary agreement was for a purchase price of about $1.6 billion, but that was before the prospective buyer did due diligence. The person says the final offer by the potential buyer could be much lower. The 76-year old Loria bought the Marlins for $158.5 million.
NCAAFB – 3 players, 1 staffer suspended amid investigation
Three Michigan State University football players are suspended from team activities and removed from on-campus housing as part of a sexual assault investigation. The school says in a release Thursday that a staff member associated with the football program also has been suspended. Police are expected to forward reports in the case to prosecutors for possible criminal charges. The school says the complaint was made late last month. Names of the players were not released, but the school says it is retaining a law firm to conduct an investigation into “football program staff members’ compliance with university policy in connection with the allegations.” A Title IX consultant also has been retained to conduct a separate investigation. That probe will address whether MSU’s Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct policy was violated.
NCAAFB – Details of Fleck’s big deal at Minnesota
Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck’s five-year, $18 million contract comes with a hefty buyout if he is fired and substantial bonuses if the Gophers win big. The university has released the details of the deal agreed to last month and set to be finalized this week. Fleck will make $3.5 million in his first season, with $50,000 annual raises over the remainder of the contract, which is valued slightly above the average for Big Ten football coaches. If Fleck is dismissed without cause after one year, the university would owe him $9 million. The buyout figure drops to $3 million after three full seasons and $1.5 million with one year remaining. Fleck would make an extra $250,000 if the Gophers win the Big Ten.
Olympics – Tirico in, Costas out for NBA Olympics coverage
NBC is replacing Bob Costas as its prime-time host of the network’s Olympics telecast with Mike Tirico. The change will take place starting with next year’s winter games in South Korea. The 64-year-old Costas has been the prime-time host for 11 Olympics televised by NBC since 1992.
